If you've had one how was it diagnosed? Was it a CT scan, MRI etc? My new gastro said he would talk about
ordering a CT enterography when I see him next month when I had my scope mid December. Well I'm going to request he order it sooner since I've had multiple episodes of pain since the fall. I've kind of been in a bit of limbo because my former GI suddenly left the practice/hospital and I was assigned this new one.

So I called the GI's office yesterday and spoke with his nurse. She must not have believed me bc she quoted my scope results saying I was in endoscopic remission. I had to remind her that if it's a stricture higher up it doesn't matter what the scope looked like. Something tells me I'm going to have to wait until I end up in the ER or I see him next month. I just hope this isn't one of those things that takes forever to find.
I knew the remission dx on my scope results was too good to be true...I thought I'd get to enjoy feeling relatively normal for a bit.

For me it was found via CT scan in the hospital ER during a bowel obstruction. Don't let it get that far, try your GI again. Does he have an e-mail portal? Sometimes you can bypass the nurse and get directly to the doctor by e-mailing.
Endoscopic remission does not rule out a stricture. As you said, the scope might not make it that far. Additionally, strictures can be caused by things other than inflammation - ischemic, scar tissue etc. I had (and still have) no signs of Crohn's activity or inflammation but I had a stricture that put me in the hospital 9 times and had to be surgically removed. Get a scan to rule it out.

I lived with a stricture for a few years, but with more and more episodes. In
Dec I had a CT scan, surgery for an obstructed bowel and now have an ileostomy. Besides a Ct, a barium test will also show strictures (SBFT)

Wish me luck, I'm having the scan done this afternoon. Hopefully they will find something...

Yep, my pcp was able to access the results today and I have a 5 cm stricture. I knew it! Now I just have to talk to my GI next week and see where we go from here. I predict a surgery in my near future. Sorry just being silly I'm just relieved I won't be going through tons of tests trying to get an answer.

Glad you have your answer! Next steps will be figuring out what to do about
it. If you go for surgery, see if strictureplasty is an option for you.

Can you explain the symptoms of a stricture? I had a small one years back but am now experiencing bloating, pain, nausea and bad constipation. Everything I eat all day is supposed to help my constipation, but if I'm lucky I go every 3 days.

Hi Jenn, This one i have right now causes acute pain and bloating. Previously I had one at the anastomsis site from my first surgery and it was a constant really painful deep ache. I can't comment on the C, because I tend to go the other way.

Jenn4dex,
You might have slow transit in your bowels or you might have a stricture. You can ask your doc for tests to see if it is a stricture. For constipation they recommend high fiber, but if you have a stricture, then that's a really bad idea as it is harder for high fiber food to pass through, so then you have to eat low residue foods. Even after my surgery to remove my stricture, I have slow transit time. Try experimenting with Miralax to see if it will help. I currently take 1/2 Senokot (laxative) every other day and it really helps keep things moving and avoid the bloating, but I'm in remission and only struggling with IBS right now. I hope that helps
