I have had a diagnosis for about
10 years. I also have had 2 brain surgery ops for large meningioma's. they were treated with dexamethasone before and after surgery both times, 15 years apart. One remains that was too dangerous to remove apparently being wrapped around main artery into brain. I believe the crohns is caused by that steroid. has anyone else had that and has a weight problem now? nowadays my weight has climbed to obesity without overeating or rubbish eating. I alternate between attack of crohns or okay so self manage. every medication I have had reacts so nothing is currently taken for treatment although I have been investigating homeopathy. I am so over being huge and lumbering around (about
90kgs and climbing). exercise is difficult these days since I twisted my knee two years ago and it has not improved. prior to that I walked 5-10 ks daily with my dogs. I know I am not alone, just really feeling down and horrid today. have to go for another colonoscopy soon as last stool indicated high results and doctor feels it is active disease going on. he wants to check it out so waiting on that. moan moan moan, sorry I am negative today.!

I'm overweight with Crohn's. I've noticed before I flare that I usually gain between 10-20 lbs and it's tough to get it off again. I figure that since I'm probably not absorbing nutrition that my body decides to store what it can and I gain weight. And then a round of prednisone never helps me. I've had reactions to almost all the meds, but am now on Entyvio and have been so pleased that it's working and I haven't had a bad reaction. I would encourage you to keep trying to find a med that works.
Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. It's always tough when you are in a flare, and other health issues pile on. <hugs>

welcome to the group!. I too am considered overweight, although I have had crohn's for 25+ years. today I weighed 217 lb, but I am 6'6". Last summer I was 238-245 which is my normal weight for past 25 years. But I have been in a long flare and will be having surgery next week. but the point is even at this weight today, I am overweight according to the BMI index. BUt my doctor says do not pay attention to the BMI. It is just one of any things to consider. I have not weighed 217 since my freshman year in college and i was playing college basketball. It all has to do with bone structure and muscle mass and such.
BTW, I too had a large menginanomia removed about
2 1/2 years ago. all is good now but that was an ordeal with seizures afterwards and hospitalizations and such. I am seizure free for over 1 1/2 years now, but if i have any more I will be on medications for it for life. And, that would complicate the crohn's treatments even more.
Hang in there you are not alone

I am as well. My problem is that I lose weight too fast when in the hospital on IV nourishment, then get on prednisone and gain it too fast, and I yo-yo back and forth. So at this point, my metabolism is shot. Last summers ago I walked 6 miles every single morning pushing a double stroller, and I didn't lose any weight (or shrink pants sizes). It was a bit discouraging.

I too am overweight (bordering on obese?) at BMI of 28 and weigh 200lbs. (I am 5'8") After having my DNA analyzed I did learn that due to genetics I am predisposed to weigh almost 10 percent more than "average". I am currently on Remicade, and prior to that when I had very bad flares and abscesses, I got down to 125. For me I see it as the Remicade is doing what it is supposed to do. I feel I am absorbing a decent amount of nutrients (obviously) and just to make sure its not just calories and fat that I absorb, I take a whole food based vitamin. I work a lot of long hours sitting at a desk and they say "sitting is the new smoking" so I know that is not helping. Going through Menopause is not helping either. I do not know of a single woman who made it through "the change" without packing on some pounds! I can walk a 5K and not lose a single pound. I know I could burn body fat if I could find the time to do more intense cardio. Between work, all the doctor appointments, bloodwork, TB tests, etc. etc. and trying to raise a teenager something has to give. If I have to choose between going to a gym and being with my family (which I only see for about
2 hours a night) I am going to choose THEM. But do not get discouraged. One way to burn some calories is water aerobics if you have access to a YMCA or something like that. It kicked my butt!!!

thank you to those who took the time to reply to my vent ! much appreciated and helped me with accepting where i am at and getting on with it! i care for my husband who has alzheimers and i feel powerless to help which turns into inward frustration to myself ! my dear friend spent time with me the other day and massaged my shoulders which had hard knots of tension in them - i must say i felt relaxed afterwards and next day was a good day for me ! passing that on as it may be helpful for others - being relaxed for me presented in normal elimination it seems and less urgency - going to investigate this further ....! blessings and gratitude ! jj

@nene3, you should probably "post new topic" so that people will see your question instead of doing it on someone else's thread. Also, please give us some background - do you have Crohn's? What medications are you on? Why do you need pain meds? Please answer all of these and more in a new thread. Thanks!
