about a year or so ago i had a perianal abscess and was put on clindamycin. Then ended up with cdiff. Ever since the abscess i could always tell where it was when i walk especially if i walked a lot. I mentioned it to my gi and she said she didnt see anything and nothi g has shown up on a ct scan. Well to make a long story short ITS BACK. In the exact same spot!!!!!!!!!!! Its not extremely painful ....yet. Is it possible to get a perianal abscess if crohns is in remission? At least the dr insists im in remission. However the source of my LRQ pain has never been found. Urology recommends an mri. Still waiting to see if gi agrees. Should i just go on to the er about the abscess or just wait and see how it pans out

Oh goodness no, bucko! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I would say call your GI and see if they can get you in fast to drain it otherwise go to the ER. (I forgot, it's Friday, still calling and speaking to an on call doc would be good) Did you ever manage to work out your insurance issues?
There are people who get abscesses in that areawho do not have crohns although it's less likely the case. I'd question you being in remission too. I know the fistula I had would go dormant for a while and the flare back up just when I thought it was gone. One of my biggest fears is that it will return. though my doctors say there is no sign of it I can tell exactly where it was despite it being healed over for about 1.5 years

I think maybe my abscess has ruptured cause the area near the abscess my panties were wet. Dont know the color since panties are black. However the abscess still hurts. Also ive been dealing with constipation for the past week or so so therefore my hemmies are enlarged...and hurt. When i have a bm it all hurts for about 20 minutes.

Careful with this, my husband has had these 3 different times & ended up in ER to be drained & admitted one time. All three times he was put on an antibiotic & had to have wound care. He does not have crohns or UC.

I sent my GI doctor an email about the perianal abscess he responded back and a little over an hour I was totally impressed with that my last GI doctor would respond two weeks later in which I had already gone to the ER anyhow my GI doctor said he's referring me to a colorectal surgeon but in the meantime do sitz baths three times a day if pain gets worse or I develop fever and or chills to go straight to the ER

Just got an appt with colore tal surgeon on june 19th. However today i started running a low grade temp. If it goes to 101 im going to ER.

I am sooooooo glad i finally get to see the colorectal surgeon tomorrow. My perianal abscess has gotten bigger and it hurts soooooo much. Yesterday i had a lot of pain in my rectom area. If i wasnt seeing the surgeon tomorrow i would be going to the ER today.

Hang in there Bucko. If you start to run a fever please go to Er quickly.....

Sepsis is nasty and happens far too quickly!

Well i saw the colorectal surgeon today. I was told that i have a perirectal fistula that has abscessed. He plans to do surgery on june 29th and put in a seton to keep the fistula open. Is that gonna cause me to soil. Usually i have diarrhea and im afraid its gonna leak.

Each fistula is different. For me, the seton kept most of mine plugged up. Even now, without the fistula, I only leak if I am doing a colonoscopy prep. Even "regular" diarrhea doesn't always leak out. But I would just wear some pads for a bit just to see.

I agree with sci-fi...even though I have never had a seton. She is the voice of reason for me.

My doctors refuse to put one in me because my responses to everything have been so extreme and sudden. Not like the norm. Apparently I get to be even more special....having Crohns wasn't just enough for me....little overachiever that I am...Lol...

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope everything goes well. Please let us know how you are.

I had a seton put in place 2 years ago and have not had any real issues with leaking, cleaning is a little more difficult, and can cause bleeding if your too rough.

Man im hurting so bad. This abscess has become unbearable. My surgery is on june 29th. How can i relieve some pain. Its like throbbing while laying down. If i stand its like stabbing pain. I definitely cannot sit. Help!!!

Some sitz baths and heating pads might help. Or the reverse, if they don't, try some ice packs.

Bucko,

Just wanted to jump on to let you know you are not alone. I've been dealing with it for about a week and go in for surgery tomorrow. Baths as hot as you can handle can provide temporary relief. I've been taking too many Oxycodones as well, but they barely take the edge off.

I'm actually freaking out a bit about the fever thing, because initially, I had a fever for about a week. Fever, chills, and night sweats. Then it just all kind of went away except for the pain in the butt. It's so ridiculously intolerable....

I had a little bit of drainage today so that took the edge off the pain just a little bit. Im dreading the surgery too. Im a mom of 7 kids so i cant be out of commission for to long. I hope the recovery time is quick.

Stevo68...keep us posted on how your surgery goes. My abscess began on june 9th and my surgery is june 29th. Thats almost 3 weeks of having to deal with a "pain in the butt". Ive had a low grade temp and night sweats as well.

I posted in my abscess thread. Surgery went. He removed a hemorrhoid and something else (he didn't call it an abscess but said it was more like a small tumor but not a tumor - I was so out of it, I honestly don't know what it was) and drained some pus. He didn't think what he saw would cause all the pain I'm having however. I probably won't know for a few days if the pain I currently have is from the cutting or the "old" pain. If this pain comes back, I don't know what I'll do.

Well surgery didnt go as planned. Since i had the drainage on sunday the abscess hadnt filled back up to severe pain level so there wasnt much to drain. The fistula is very narrow and the dr is hoping it will close on its own. Since i had had surgery before in that area he was afraid that if he did too much prying around it would do more harm than good. He did say that if the abscess became severe again to see him in the office immediately. Right now im just sore from where he opened the abscess..
