About to start Lialda! Side effects?

Hi everyone,

I've been on Uceris and I'm am about to start Lialda. I'm wondering if there are any side effects I should know about, and if you have ever been on it and seem good results I would love to hear. Thanks!

Lialda is probably one of the most ineffective medications for Crohn's there is. It is not effective for very many, no more so than a placebo in the majority of cases. There are very few side effects, but I'm afraid you may not have the best results.

I have been off and on lialda over the years. I frequently noticed when restarting it a worsening of symptoms and more cramping. This did pass after several weeks and my GI said this can happen. I can't say for sure if it helped or not. I took it initially after being on prednisone( and cipro and flagyl) so that had the biggest impact. the following year I flared. I was told by the doctor that the lower part of the colon was no longer inflamed ( it was inflamed further up) was that the work of the lialda keeping it that way because it tends to work on the colon mostly or was that still healed from the last round of the other meds? who knows, I can't say for sure and either way I had a flare. Currently on 6mp and Remicade. It's worth trying but have a back up plan if it doesn't work in a few months.

Lialda is a 90 percent topical, mild, anti-inflammatory medication that is well tolerated by most. Few experience side effects from it. It's more commonly used for Ulcerative Colitis patients, such as myself. I've yet to experience a side effect from lialda, and I've been using it for 5 years now.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I don't understand why my doctor would prescribe it if it doesn't work sad ugh well I'll see how it goes, I can always switch medications if I don't see improvement. That is great to hear that there are almost no side effects! I'll let everyone know how it goes. Thanks again smile

My hair was falling out. After washing my hair , the drain was just like a 1/4 full of hair sad

Many GIs prescribe it for Crohn's even though it was never approved to treat Crohn's. They do this because of wishful thinking, believing that since it helps UC, it should help Crohn's as well. But research shows it doesn't help Crohn's any better than a placebo does. Many doctors don't keep up with that research.

I have been on Lialda for many years. I had headaches in the beginning but I just needed to drink more water with it. It helped me considerably. Everyone is different so I hope it works well for you.
