Sinus infection

Three weeks ago I got a cold and it took about 10-12 days to feel better. 5 days of feeling better I started feeling symptoms again. I went to the doctor this week and she thinks I have a sinus infection. I don't have the typical symptoms of sinus pain or headache. I'm congested, coughing and have post nasal drip. The doctor gave me doxycycline, which I haven't started on. I'm starting to feel a bit better.

I'm on entyvio and am wondering if it's harder to fight this off because of it, and I should just bite the bullet and take the antibiotics.

Is post-nasal drip colored or clear drainage?

Is there pressure and/or congestion on one side of your nose? Both sides? Neither side?

Any low-grade fever?

Any colored drainage/gunk from either side of nose?

It might be a sinus infection (or might not be). And, antibiotics aren't always needed with sinus infections. But for somebody immunosuppressed, antibiotics might be more necessary (still not yet a must, though).

See if you can get rid of it without antibiotics first.

Do so by making sure you drink enough fluids. Also use saline nasal spray - and use it a lot - or irrigate or use netipot. Also you may consider using sudafed (the good stuff that you have to get from the pharmacist) to decongest the nasal passages and promote opening and drainage of the sinus cavities.

Some (many?) people can clear a sinus infection without resorting to antibiotics. Not all can. It's worth a shot, as antibiotics have risks of their own as you well know.

I thought with an infection it was supposed to be green discharge?

The cough....on mine I use musinex or musinex D with congestion.

Green discharge is a sign that there's almost certainly an infection.

But sometimes the discharge is 'stuck' in the sinus and there's nothing coming out that tells you for sure it's an infection.

As someone who has suffered from failed sinus surgery twice and chronic pain with it in almost 18 years I can speak from experience,

Green discharge is infection. oral Anitbotics tend to be wa waist fiof time long ternm as not enough blood gets into sonis membrame. Been under pain panamegemnt clinic since 1999.

Have you ever tried Vallium? What it does for me is reduses the infmmalation of maxrillay sinus and allows crap to drain out till need build up, SOme ENT's will tel you that what is in right sinus cannot get into left, well that is rubbish.

I have had Crohns for 25 plus years and immune syurprseant drugs have comprised system Which doesn't help.

Got bad sinus now worse it has been in years because I trialed Humira. Was not made aware of all the side effects it could cause.
Neurolgoist it took to work out how bad this drug got me.

Have serious nerve issues. Numb smallest fingers both hands primary left and same with toes and pain in enblows and neck and lower back, nerve conduction studies done and have got worse in 6 mnths, One would think Humira would not be cause now as per Gasto words but side effects are not.



All I can say is I sypmpahise regarding sinus. You can try antibotics or surgery if you feel your immune system can handle it, out of question of me.
