First sorry to post this off topic in this sub forum.But I visited this thread a few months back when my disease was not diagnosed yet and I know it has a bit more active member then gerd thread.But if you don't like it here please send it to gerd- Heartburn sub forum.

So I was diagnosed with erosive antral gastritis six months ago as it was described in the endoscopy report also h pylori positive.Doctor gave me two week antibiotics course followed by one more month of omeprazole twice a day.

Later on my second visit to gastroenterologist I asked whether my gastritis will heal sooner or later
as I have read on the net that some people take six months to a full year to heal.Then he said my disease was non-ulcerative dyspepsia.I wonder why did he change the name of the disease because he did wrote in endoscopy report that it was erosive antral gastritis?(yes the same doctor did the endoscopy)

Was he trying to reassure/calm me?

I have already visited him two more times each time I was given a new course of medicine.
My pain from stomach(quite bad burning, gnawing) has reduced quite a bit but I also had another pain that was and is happening right under the belly skin below the right ribcage.That pain increased in last few days.I don't know what to make of it.If the stomach wall is healing from inside why would pain in belly surface increase?!

I was wondering while the gastritis was healing the increased pain from belly skin/surface may be caused by some other issue which is still not diagnosed.I am looking up in the internet.Possible diseases that came up includes stomach cancer(gastritis can cause it to some patients), peritoneal cancer(very rare and very vague symptoms like mine and rather very difficult to diagnose).
Recently I lost six-seven kilos in last few months(possibly a bit more).So I am kind of worried.

Does anyone have any info/experience to share with me?

I'm not too familiar with those specific diagnosis but I have had gastritis and GERD/heartburn.you might want to get a second opinion or ask the doctor out right to clarify things. Either way, It can be hard to get rid of and does take time and a bit of patience and switching different acid reducing medications. The pain close to the surface most likely from acid reflux, its very typical. I have been dealing with it quite a bit for the past few months. i can also understand some of your burning and gnawing pains (though I tend to get them further up in my chest). Its also really easy to lose weight when you have stomach pains but try not to stress over its soon as the pain resolves you should gain it all back. I lost quite a bit over the last few months and basically put half of it back on within a week. Just make sure you eat! and see if adjusting your diet to follow a GERD diet helps.

It sounds like your having quite a lot of anxiety over this, which is very understandable. I'm not sure of your symptoms, but I think you need to stop trying to match up your symptoms on the internet. We're all guilty of doing this, and while the internet is a tremendous resource, it's very easy to match yourself up to almost every condition under the sun. Cancer always seems to jump to the forefront for everyone.

Hopefully, you can urge your Doctor for reassurance or for another referral to get to the bottom of things. Hope you're feeling better soon.

It's probably best if you just ask your doctor for clarification.

But it seems to me he just used two similar descriptions, not really two different disease diagnoses. The "erosive antral gastritis" is a specific description of the findings from the endoscopy. The term "non-ulcerative dyspepsia" is a term he'd use more in the office setting to mean you don't have an ulcer but you have stomach/gastritis related digestive discomfort.

Yes my belly surface pain is in the middle of my belly like in between navel and right lowest ribcage bone.Also the pain of gastritis reduced after following some strict diet and medicine for last six months.In fact I am gradually increasing food intake for last two months due to improved/lowered pain.But I cant eat too much the stomach feels fuller and feels stressed too and starts having a bit more pain.So i am trying to be careful about how much I eat in launch and dinner.

Well you are probably right .I am getting overanxious about it.To be honest things seemed improving then this sudden increase in pain made me worry a lot.

Your reply seems to me the right explanation about my erosive antral gastritis/non ulcerative dyspepsia confusion.So I think I don't need to ask the doctor anymore about it.

btw for how long did you take ppi (omeprazole/esomeprazole these types of medicine) continuously for healing your gastritis?

I am asking because I have seen on the net that some people say they took this type of ppi medicine for two/three/four months continuously for healing gastritis.And some even took it for a year or more if they had chronic gastritis.

But my doctor does not want to give me this medicine anymore.He says you can't take it for long.
If it is bad how does some people keep taking it for months or even a year for gastritis!

If I remember correctly from your prior posts you were on NSAIDS for nearly 2 years before all of this cropped up. I look at it this way, it took time for the NSAIDS to cause your issues & it will take time to get yourself back in shape.

Each dr has their own way of doing things with patients. Some will only allow short term meds, when another dr will allow a patient to be on them longer. If you are not satisfied with your current gi, perhaps go for a 2nd opinion.

You really need to pay attention to your diet & stay away from foods that will irritate your stomach until it is healed. The internet is a great place to learn about a diagnosis once one is given, but cruising it based on symptoms one may have is not good. Too many symptoms overlap illnesses & all that does is stress a person out.

I agree with @straydog on length of time for treatment. I have been on and off of them for years. Each time it usually takes a few months but I'm not sure of the exact amount of time. I would just gradually decrease how often I was taking it after it was well controlled for several weeks/months. My current situation though I have needed to be on it longer than usual and at a double dose. As for doctors, a previous doctor I went to had no problem with long term use, current doctor does not want long term use- I agree with the later personally, so will be stopping it as soon as possible.

Well it's true it does increase the stress.I am okay with my doctor.He seems very experienced and nice person to talk to.

Yes that's information I was looking for that one can start and stop this ppi depending on symptoms coming and going.And certainly if your gastritis is chronic for that situation what else can one do!
