Insight for a 10 year old who may have Crohns

I have been to drs for the last 2 years for my son. He complained about pain after eating, he'll be on the toilet with pain and has had 3 endoscopies. The 1st endo had 36hfp eosinophils so they thought he had EOE. He had lost so much weight they almost hospitalized him.The GI dr is checking for Crohns with 2 fecal tests. He also gets hives, rashes, migraines, has only had 1 cold sore inside his lip, no blood in his stool either. Some days he can eat and drink certain foods fine and then other days he can not. His face is stark white when he is in pain and other times he can not even walk. Any advice would help. Thanks

He has reflux, hiatal hernia, irritable bowel syndrome
Takes omeprozole, miralax, singulair and xyxal

Hello & welcome to the forum. So very sorry to read about your son, when it comes to the kids its just tough. In order to find out if your son has crohns, a colonoscopy needs to be done with biopsy's taken. Fecal tests alone are not how to dx crohns. I do hope your son is being seen by a pediatric gi. If you are not happy with his current gi, do not hesitate to get another opinion.

Thank you. Yes, she mentioned a colonoscopy. She said the only other disease that you see so many lymphocytes in the esoogogus is this disease. My son has been through a lot. I just want it to be over 😔

Lymphocytes in his esophagus or eosinophils like you said in your first post?

I'm assuming they've run lots of blood tests. Are his white blood cell counts always ok, including the various subtypes (eosinophils, monocytes, basophils, lymphocytes, etc)?

What are they going to test for with the stool tests?

Has he seen an allergist? An immunologist?

Any fevers? Any joint pains? Any family history of autoimmune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, etc)?

He has had 3 endo's done and the 1st had eosinophils 36 times hfp under the microscope which is not normal. There should be none. The GI dr told me he had lymphocytes in his esophogus but he doesn't have esiophilic esophogitis (EOE)
That they see that with Crohn's though. The stool sample is to look for specific white cells I guess and another test for blood.
No blood tests yet or colonoscopy.

He is going to see allergist on the 7th. No immumologist.

I have RA, sjrogrens, blood disorder, ostoperosis.

He also has asthma, excema, food allergies, enviormental allergies, temperature related hives.

I agree with the advice you've already received here. A colonoscopy with biopsies is the only way to truly confirm a Crohn's diagnosis.

You son could have any of a number of things going on. I would be pushing your GI for further testing to rule out other digestive disorders. I would recommend a gluten sensitivity test to rule out Celiac first.

Seeing a food allergist is a very good idea at this point. Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of things soon. It's very tough on parents, especially during the diagnostic phase.

This is a lot of a child to take in! I don't have Crohn's but have aa child with Crohn's and on any day I would trade my intestines for his. As his mother I feel so helpless and after my son (now 21) was diagnosed he got very sick and was hospitalized two times -including one for an ill cecal resection. But now he is doing so well and I can step back and not worry as often. Best to you and your son as you continue to take various tests / biopsies. And this forum is comprised of so much wisdom that I get endless insight and comfort from coming here!
