I had stomach upsets for 20 years. My family dr. Diagnosed me with "inflammation of the intestines" after seeing results of an upper g.i. Procedure in 1980. Prescribed Bentyl, flagyl, and mild tranquilizer as needed, told me to drink mylanta and milk and avoid spicy foods. Several years of pain, vomiting, diarrhea, more tests with no significant answers.
Nearly 20 years later I was having nightly fevers, vomiting, bleeding. Ate a big bowl of popcorn one saturday afternoon and ended up in e.r. With partial bowel instruction. Had X-rays and ultimately colonoscopy that finally diagnosed me with crohns. I have been on pentasa since with only one other hospitalization because of chronic fever from inflammation, a couple of bouts of steroids, but all in all doing well.
