Hello everyone ,
I wanted to update since some people are interested in the Filac matter and to also get your views if you feel like it.
So far my situation:
- I have had FiLac surgery on October 25th after three months with a draining seton
- My situation improved significantly since then (symptom wise) BUT the fistula has not fully healed.
- I saw a new CRS in December (very reputable, well known fella) who told me that a fistulotomy would most likely be possible (80% possible) or else "we'll see, most likely 6 months seton and then FLAP"). He said the "fistula is indeed transphicteric but not high" and that most likely he'll take it out. I pushed about
incontinence and he said "its rather impossible" and in any case it "would be very minor or transient." That scared me a bit...
- Yesterday, I saw my old CRS for a follow up. He said my fistula is mid-transphicteric and proposed to go for a surgery in one month. He gives it a 50% chance that will be able to perform a cutting seton - or if he is not able 50% FiLac. I suspect given these numbers that he will do a repeat FiLac procedure....
Since my situation has improved I am very hesitant to leave my Old CRS although I dare say, he is almost obsessed with FiLac and he is extremely conservative about
fistulotomy or cutting seton since he dreads the option of incontinence. He will most likely give it a shot at FiLac again...
God this is taking a long time and I am fearing a new failure from FiLac (or part failure since my situation has improved)...Any comments welcome.
