I am losing my hair..

Hey everyone..
Two days ago I was in the hospital and had gotten my remicade treatment.. When I was all finished I had come home and went to sleep. In the middle of the night I felt a large wad of hair on my back, I pulled it off and threw it on the ground. When I got up in the morning to look at it, it was quite large. So, after my mom and I went shopping that day, I told her. Yesterday night she came in my room and I showed her the wad of hair. She was sad about it, but I wasn't because I see no change in my appearance. This morning I woak up, again covered in my own hair, but to see a bald spot on the left side of my hair.. It is probably 3 inches up and across. It is noticeable when I put my hair up. I ONLY put my hair up because if I keep it down I shed everywhere.

I have had around 12ish maybe less treatments of remicade. Previously, I had told my mom that I was having hair loss and she did not believe me.. Now she does.

I run my hand thru my hair and chunks come out as if my hair has been snipped at the route.

Any one have this problem? When will it go away? Has anyone been completely bald?

I notice I am only losing hair in patches.

We can loose hair as IBD patients with or without medications. It can be a delayed-reaction to a flare. We can loose hair due to malnutrition from a flare, low blood iron levels (an anemia), low vitabin b, b12 (folate), and d. IBD patients are more prone to have folate deficiencies, often genetic.

Hair regrowth is often a delayed-reaction to healing from your flare. It happens once the underlying problem has been cleared up.

Do you have any recent bloodwork?

I had quite severe hair loss. What I did was take Biotin, Vitamin B12 and folic acid. After a month of taking these the hair loss stopped.

So, I think it will stop, although it is terribly distressing while it happens, I know I've been there.

or since CD is a type of auto- immune disease, it could be alopecia, also a auto immune disease. best to check with the dr as we are not... ;0P

I have lost almost all of my hair. I'm currently sporting a modified crew cut courtesy of my sweet husband. I was in and out of the hospital for 3 months with C-Diff and newly diagnosed Crohn's. I experienced severe malnutrition and extreme weigh fluctuations. I was given prednisone and started on Entyvio. I knew that hair loss can happen when the body is stressed but I did not expect this. It is only hair but as humans we like our hair...and I have been reassured that it will grow back once my body heals. I'm sure yours will grown back in time as your body heals too.
