SCD diet???

Unless I'm reading the posts incorrectly IAC didn't say gluten CAUSED IBD, just that it is a common cause of agggravating symptoms. Gluten doesn't bother me, but given that many people are sensitive to gluten it does seem to be worth a try to find out.

Summer4... I did find the FODMAP elimination diet to be somewhat helpful to me. It is a diet that eliminates common IBS triggers, and then you slowly add back foods to see what is bothering you. It is not meant to be a diet that you remain on forever but one that helps you sort out if you have any food sensitivities. I do think that our bacterial balance in our gut affects inflammation and possible Crohn's flares, but from what I'm reading, we haven't learned enough to know what to do with that information.

Thanks gumby but let's drop it, it's not worth discussing further. This started when the OP asked a simple question about diet.

In a previous post in this thread I brought up a published study from director of the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research, and was accused of citing posts from “quack doctors with dubious qualifications”. But just a cursory search will produce dozens of rigorous research articles how gluten can trigger an inflammatory response.

But go on then: challenge accepted.

Why is it that when I google gluten and inflammation none of these "dozens" of "rigorous" research articles come up for me? The first link I get is from paleoleap.com. The third link is from a quack doctor called Amy Myers who, surprise surprise, has a store on her site. And so on, and so forth.

Oh look. When I google gluten and inflammation myth, thus bypassing at least some of the tedious quackery, I start getting some different results.

It's amazing how in less than 30 seconds I found several links which debunked the Gluten is Bad! meme. Whilst you in your many years of googling apparently haven't managed to find one piece of evidence which contradicts your cherished beliefs.

I thought I provided ample justification that gluten can cause inflammation. And I have to respect NCOT for making excellent points and citing good sources to justify her position. I don't consider that backpedaling, it's agreeing to disagree. We could go on forever but it's obvious I probably won't out debate her. But I don't recall that you contributed much to this thread except an inflammatory post accusing me of being a troll.

I realise that you may have certain 'problems' coffeemate, so I will try not to take your ill considered remarks personally. Can you try to Follow along?

Some of us were concerned by that remark, and tried to correct his exaggeration, and he did back down from that statement.

Unnecessary suffering comes from exaggeration, even more so than from direct lies which are more obvious.

Summer 4..... Sorry for all the chaos on this thread. This usually is a very supportive forum. Obviously the food/diet issue touches a nerve for lots of folks. Please don't quit the forum. Even among the folks arguing above, there is tons of support and good suggestions.

My own opinion (and it is just an opinion) is that food alters our microbiome (bacterial balance) which in turn seems to influence inflammation, but the scientists have not yet figured out exactly how/why that happens, how other factors like genetics and environment and illnesses influence things and then how it all translates into stopping evil Crohn's from being activated and wreaking havoc. Maybe one day we'll get there....

Summer, gumby is absolutely right, this was just a random thing that happened & I am sorry it happened on your thread. When I first joined HW, it was this forum I participated in. I had been recently dx'd & had an emergency small bowel resection. I had no idea about crohns, with the help of this forum I received a lot of great information & support.
