Hey guys,

So long story short I was in a bad flare before Christmas time, did a scope and found a stricture in my terminal ileum. I was loaded up with a lot of humira, did 3 months of endorcort. Seemed to fix the problem. Had some pain in the last week, but today is AWFUL. I can't stand up the pain is so bad, and I've thrown up now twice copious amounts. I've got the chills and I'm so bloated. I'm guessing it's my stricture acting up again and not a flu bug. Wondering what I should do? See how the night goes and hope the pain and vomiting stops? Ugh I was totally fine and now this loveliness sad I'm hoping it's just one really bad night. Any one with strictures and similar stories?

ever had your appendix out? terminal ileum is right where it is and can be affected by the inflamation. lots of crohns patients get diagnosed because the dr thinks its appendicitis, goes in its fine but sees the crohns, removes the appendix so they dont have to rule it out next time since they are already in there.

Hey Gutsy,

Sorry about the flare up.... it's pretty common with a stricture unfortunately.
The humira and entocort would have limited the inflammation, but the scarring remains. When you get a flare up it tends to obstruct, and you get the symptoms you describe.

It will settle, and then you can decide what to do. If the narrowing is limited to a small area and the Crohns is not to bad, you can try a dilatation.

hang in there, take care (and take some pain meds if you have them)

I have not had my appendix out actually! I had my gall bladder out but that was because it actually needed to come out haha.
Thanks ambling, it was a very rough night but you are right it finally did settle after a few hours. Sadly no pain meds but I kept throwing up anyways- which made me curious if i do have a flu bug after all. They tried to do a dilation but the scope couldn't fit through the stricture so they decided it was too risky. My GI said we shall keep a close eye on it and hope surgery won't have to be an option.

Gutsy, you may want to ask your dr for a script of generic Zofran that you slip under your tongue. Recently I was prescribed this by an ER dr because of a bad stomach virus that is going around. I went from vomiting to dry heaves for hours. I have Zofran on hand, but could not keep it down long enough to do any good. The sublingual worked great! It never hurts to have something like this on hand.

Oh that's a great idea. I tried taking gravol but I threw up immediately after taking it, so the sublingual would come in handy for future times. Thanks!
