Surgery day is finally upon me. Tomorrow I'll be having a proctocolectomy at 7:30. So it's all becoming quite real. But after spending the past few days with stool pouring out of the rv fistula uncontrollably it just reconfirms this is the right thing to do.

The one weird thing is this hospital lets you drink clear liquids up till when you arrive. Yea nice black tea in the morning.

Haven't been the least bit nervous until now. Don't think I'll be sleeping much tonight.

Although not familiar with proctocolectomy, I am - like most people in the forum - all too familiar with the angst one feels right before a surgery... I wish there was a way we could all skip "the night before"!

Good luck! I agree with Dmitri about the night before surgery - I didn't get a wink of sleep the night before either of my surgeries. Not much you can do about that really, but the more important thing is the recovery afterwards. Hoping it all goes smoothly for you.

Update. All went well and as expected as far as the ostomy. But he found a loop of small bowel with a stricture and did a resection. Then he took out a bunch of scar tissue that was rapped around my bowel at the anastamosis site. So it,was basically a 3 for 1 deal smile
Healing nicely and get to try solid food today. Probably not going home until Wednesday.

Very glad to hear you resolved so many issues with one surgery and recovery! Take gentle care of yourself.

Lamb, please take good care of yourself. Hopefully you will be able to tolerate some soft food of some kind. If you don't feel well enough to go home on Wednesday let your dr know. I know most of the time we feel better getting home.
