Question for ladies: does Remicade cause vaginitis?

I don't know what's happening lately and don't know whether these are Crohn's or Remicade's gifts. I have vaginal itching and burning sensation and there are white flakes there. I searched this in relation to Remicade and it turned out Remicade causes vaginitis. I don't want to take any oral meds. It's enough for me what I already take. My fistula is acting up, too. So, I have itching and pain all down there

Sounds like yeast infection to me too. Have you seen your gyn about it? I'm sure he/she can help you.

@Lab. I get embarrassed too and I don't want to tell my GI about it. Everything that has to go down my GI tract has to be done after taking his permission. A lot of times, the GP was convinced I could take meds which he refused. As you know that I don't like the idea of seeing him too often. I have to see him in 2 weeks for the bruising issue.
@ Andrina. Was hoping that Diflucan or any topical cream would solve the problem. If it doesn't go, then I'll see an Ob/gyn.

I would second the Diflucan. I had a bad yeast infection and my RV fistula was acting up. I was put on a few doses of Diflucan and it really calmed everything down, including the fistula.

I agree that it sounds like a yeast infection. Don't be embarrassed about it. Any time you take medications like antibiotics, steroids, or other immune suppressants - and it happens without medications - it can and does happen. I live in the southern US where summers are hot. One of my doctors always fussed about pantyhose making the perfect environment for yeast infections, and when hose went out of fashion, well, it's rare for me now. Don't miss pantyhose in the least.

The Monistat topical cream always worked well for me, but I had to make sure I used it for the full amount of time it states.

I was able to treat mine with over the counter creams. It's annoying but treatable. I used the 5 or 7 day ones. Hope you find relief soon.

Dear all, thank you. I too feel I want to give Diflucan a try. Will try it out and hope it resolves the problem.

I feel like anything that decreases immune function can cause recurring vaginitis or yeast. If it's vaginitis, you would need an antibiotic. Either way, it usually requires a trip to the doctor for an RX. I have diflucan on hand personally... Boric acid vaginally can be used to treat both conditions, but you should talk with a doctor before starting anything. I've done boric acid supps a few times, and man, they work well. I think that's what finally stopped my recurrent issues.

Yes, as we both mentioned previously this idea of depending too much on our GIs is really embarrassing but we have no other option. I told the doctor who gives me the infusion about the infection and she recommended my taking Diflucan. My GI trusts her so I found it acceptable to consult her.

Had my first Remicade treatment today! Out of curiosity, how soon after treatment did everyone start noticing symptoms of yeast infection?

I was on Remicade for 3 1/2 years & never had this problem. I do know that some women are more prone to yeast infections than others. I have a friend that got yeast infections a lot & she wasn't on any medications at all.

I hope the Remicade helps you as it has many people.
