I also had a dental abscess/fistula prior to getting the rectal abscess. i'm starting to wonder if these are related somehow...
In any case, the dentist thought it was a faulty root canal and re-did the procedure. A short time later the abscess returned. so it turns out it wasn't it. she sent me to see an oral surgeon and he ended up cutting my gums back and found out that one my roots were cracked. he cleaned the area real good and this held up for about a year before it returned. ultimately had to have the tooth extracted and put in a dental implant. your situation may vary, but you may have to see a specialist to get in there. As with my rectal abscess, no amount of drainage or antibiotics would have cleared up my situation.
