I have Crohn's Disease. Last Friday I swallowed an agile endoscopy pill and had an Xray on Saturday to see if the pill had traveled through my intestines. It got stuck in the terminal ileum. I had a second X-ray yesterday and the pill had not moved from its previous position. The doctor now wants to do a colonoscopy. I'm a bit confused because I thought the colonoscopy only saw the colon and not the small intestine. Why would she want a colonoscopy?

Jen15, while they cannot fully see the entire small intestine with a scope they can see some of it. I would listen to my dr on this. It needs to be investigated to see why the pill stopped.
Keep us posted.

With a normal scope they can get just a couple of inches into the small intestine.
But some GIs are trained to use specialized scopes that can reach a little farther into the small intestine and can even possibly 'grab' the pillcam from where it is stuck. They can also take a good look at the area that caused it to stick.

Sorry it got stuck. I hope it got some good footage of your small bowel.
Can you please tell me more about
how this goes? Did it pass?
I need my small intestines evaluated. I suspect a small hard to locate stricture.
There are not many options other than xray types which are not showing anything.
I want to do this test but my surgeon said to stick close to the hospital. If the pill gets stuck he may need to operate on me.
The other test is one that goes from the mouth into the stomach into the small bowel. My surgeon said it is risky too.
