UTI MED CAUSING BIG D

I had two cases of UTI this year and took Nitrofurantoin both times. It didn't give me any side effects. The first course was only a 3 day one and I don't think that fully cleared the infection - hence the UTI coming back. The second course was 7 days and, touch wood, I think that cleared it.

You could ask your GI doc if you could switch to that. But unless the side effects are intolerable I really would try to finish the course - the UTI is liable to come back unless you bosh all the bacteria. Plus not finishing courses of antibiotics contributes to future antibiotic resistance.

Thanks for the input, my urologist finally prescribed macrobid which is the brand name and my gastro prescribed flagy, plus a probiotic which seems to be working. Never a dull moment!

Yes, lots of gas but bowels are operating ok.(Knock on wood). I am very fortunate in that I didn't gett UC until I was 70 and retired with no kids to take care of, so the pressure of day to day living was less. Thanks for listening.
