Starting Elemental Diet for Crohns and new symptomps

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with UC in 2014, and in Oct 2018, they said I have crohns because they found inflammation in my ileum. I was recommended Stelara by my GI, but I am scared to try it. I currently started the elemental diet and I am on day 2 under the guidance of a naturopath. I am going to try and update my progress here.

I also had one more question for folks here: I recently took antibiotic Bactrim in 1st week of Jan 2019 for a nasal infection ( I shouldn't have). The bactrim increased my bleeding and clots which got a bit better after I took florastor. But now I am suffering from terrible sleep issues, extreme fatigue and anxiety since the bactrim. I have never had sleep issues in my life and its really scary to not be able to sleep in the night. I also have a lot of brain fog, some weird numbness in the left side of my brain and below my left eye and I feel dizzy/wobbly when I walk. I dont know if these are related to crohns or to the antibiotics, but I am pretty sure the antibiotics triggered them. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I sometimes worry if I have developed another disease! (I hope not)

You should try reading the side effects of the medicine and then consult a doctor because those sound like worrying symptoms.

I suffer from sleep issues too as a result of my depression and sometimes my Crohn's pain, but I have never had any numbness or difficulty walking (unless you count me clutching my tummy and a bit bent over while I walk difficulty). I occasionally have weakness as a result of not being able to eat much or being dehydrated (and difficulty concentrating cause of sleep issues, depression, and the eating and dehydration thing).

Numbness sounds more like a possible neurological and/or side effect of your medicine issue. Definitely talk to a doctor.

Hi Celey, Thanks for your reply! I stopped taking Bactrim 3 months ago, but the symptoms have still remained. I saw a naturopathic doctor and she said that these new neurological symptoms may be because of my gut microbes being destroyed by bactrim. You are right, I should also see a PCP and tell them what is going on. I am worried about the neurological symptoms.

I am sorry to hear that you are also suffering from depression. It sucks! I never thought I could be depressed but here I am! I hope we can all come out of this soon!
