Hi everyone!

So I’ve been in a flare up for a week and I just started on budesonide. It has actually worked for me in the past, but today when I took It, I had to run to the bathroom about 20 min later and I look down and see It floating in the toilet! I have Most of my inflammation in my ilium usually, but have had ulcers in the Duodenum once before that they saw on capsul endoscopy. Has this happened to anyone? I don’t know what to do because if it’s not absorbing how can I get better?

That seems way too fast for it to already be in the toilet just 20 minutes later. Is there any chance it was something else?

Oh really? I’ve been having blood and mucous in my stool so the only other thing I could think of would be that, because the capsul is red too

Yeah, 20 minutes is *extremely* fast. But it can happen in certain situations.

Has it happened again? If you notice it happening more than that one time - either with the pills or with undigested food - then you should notify your doctor sooner rather than later.

Obviously, pills won't do any good if they're going through that fast and coming out entirely intact.

What symptoms have you had with your flareup?

I took then about 4 hours ago so I’ll keep an eye out lol.
My symptoms during a flare are bad pain in lower abdomen (mainly right side) urgency, diarrhea about 5-10 times a day depending, weight loss, fatigue/weak, nausea, blood and mucous in stool, and dehydration.
In the past I have been known to not absorb anything during flares

When did you last have testing done? (blood tests, stool tests for fecal calprotectin, colonoscopy, and/or ct scan or mri)

What medications are you on for Crohn's besides the budesonide?

I haven’t had a blood test for about 6 months, and then haven’t had a colonoscopy since June 2017, and then the last imaging I got was in August of 2017 so I’m overdue.
I am currently taking mesalamine

Mesalamine isn't a good drug for Crohn's - it's for mild-to-moderate UC only.

You're overdue for testing, given your symptoms. And you should probably be on a stronger medication, also given your symptoms.

That’s so weird, my GI insisted it’s a good med for Crohn’s in the ilium.. I’ll have to ask him about It.
The last colonoscopy I got was in the hospital from my GI (he’s the on call GI at my local hospital) so he admitted me and did It the next day rather than having to wait a month to get in. He’s currently on call this week, do you think I should try to get It done in the hospital ASAP?

Entocort is a good med for Crohn's in the terminal ileum - but only mild to moderate Crohn's. And it's not a long-term solution.

Mesalamines aren't useful for any kind of Crohn's.

You should get blood tests and stool tests done ASAP. Then go from there in deciding how soon to do a scope and/or MRI.

Okay thank you beave. That makes me mad that he’s been having me take It.
