Is Entyvio Effective At Treating Crohn's Flares?

Is it effective at treating Crohn's flare-ups? I know it has been found to be effective for UC flare-ups, what about Crohn's?

Short answer, yes. It's approved for treating UC and Crohn's.

Thanks for sharing. Why did you stop taking it? Did you use anything else with entyvio when it put you in remission? How severe was your Crohn's?

I have been on it almost 6 months without any luck. I had great luck on Tysabri, it's more dangerous sister drug... but eventually became JC Virus positive and had to get off of it.

In studies, it shows it works for some and I had high hopes being it is similar to Tysabri... but no luck unfortunately. I just got out of the hospital and now we have to figure out what else to do.

Yeah, entyvio didn't help me the first time I tried it either, now I am considering trying it again for the second time. I find its effectiveness for treating moderate to severe Crohn's questionable.

I remember Tysabri, from what I've heard and read, its effectiveness is not bad for Crohn's - unlike entyvio. The PML issue is scary though.

I had a number of side effects...rashes, yeast infections, sinus issues, and eventually joint pain which I experienced before with Remicade, Humira and Cimizia. All cleared up after I stopped.

I didn't take anything else with Entyvio. It was slow to act, but if I remember It was around 5 months when I started to feel better. When I had a scope after a 1 year my GI saw no signs of Crohn's activity..

My Crohn's is usually classified as mild/moderate.

Sadly, entyvio didn't do a lick for me. Might as well have been water they were infusing.

there is a new drug showing promising results. Filgotnib. I think studies are currently underway. I'm considering it but can't really risk getting a placebo in my current situation.

I stopped it and switched to humira in Aug '16 when I developed fistulas. That too did nothing. I was on 4x the dose. Stelara has been the only successful or partially successful drug to treat my fistulas. Given my latest situation, I may end up increasing the dose or shortening the injection period to 6 weeks.

Thanks, your experience is valuable as I am in a similar situation.

Shortening the injection period might help, from what I have read from others. If you aren’t using already, adding 6mp to your treatment might also make a difference for the fistulas.

I've been on Entyvio for about 2.5 years. Just got results back from latest small bowel endoscopy and I am actively flaring. We talked about switching to Stelara but instead we're going to try adding 6mp.
