8 weeks pregnant with baby #3

I just had to come share the news - I'm 8 weeks pregnant with baby #3! As some of you may know, we've had 3 miscarriages between #2 and this pregnancy, so I am really excited. We had an ultrasound last week and saw the heartbeat, which significantly lowered the chances that this pregnancy won't make it to full-term.

I'm still on Remicade (7 1/2 years now) and will do it through the entire pregnancy, just like with babies #1 and #2. My due date is 5/31, and with counting out the infusions, I'll be due for one on 5/16. So we'll just have the c-section like on 5/15 or something.

I just wanted to share with y'all. I know I've been a lurker lately, and I'm sorry about that. It has been really busy the last several months.

If anyone has any questions about pregnancy with a recto-vaginal fistula, Crohn's, Remicade, etc., I'm happy to answer them. This'll be my 3rd go-around with it.

Thanks! We're now at 22 weeks, and things have been going well.

Typically, Crohn's will stay the same throughout your pregnancy as it was when you got pregnant. If your Crohn's is active, then it most likely will stay active throughout. There's a small chance it could get better, since pregnancy naturally lowers your immune system. Or there's an equal chance it gets worse because of the toll pregnancy takes on your body.

Mine was active when we accidentally got pregnant with my first, and it caused slow growth. She was only 4 lbs 8 oz at full term because I couldn't absorb nutrients - and that weight was with me getting IV nutrition through most of the pregnancy.

Overall, you do really want to have your Crohn's in remission before you get pregnant.

Hi Samantha -- Please make sure you are in communication with your GI. Pregnancy and CD together are no joke. I've had one marvelous pregnancy and one that was the opposite. Luckily everything turned out ok, but being on bedrest in a lot of pain while in the hospital and giving birth to a preemie is not anyone's idea of a good time.
