Anyone else with CD have psoriasis show up much later?

I have always had skin issues and my skin is a quick indicator when something is up with my CD (or if I have been in the sun more than 2 minutes smile ). I think I have had every CD skin side effect except PG! I also have had every (??) viral issue that has skin potential (CMV, pityasis, Fifth disease, many staph infections, etc). My Mom had excema (I am not sure it wasn't actually psoriasis). So this year, I am getting signs psoriasis may have shown up 20 years post CD dx and in my 50s. But it is not ever present. Is this normal for you?

HHF, I really can't answer your question about psoriasis showing up later. I've seen it both way here in this forum & the UC forum.

Psoriasis showed up for me when I was 50. I have had several forms of it. I held off seeking treatment with a dermatologist for over a year. Hindsight 20/20, I could kick myself for waiting like that. Dumb me asked my gi, well, he didn't have a clue, lol. Mine never went away with treatment.

This is very interesting. I’ve had UC since 1986 and had colon removed in 2002 but they left the recal stump. It never gave me any trouble but biopsies in 2016 showed moderate to severe active disease. When they did my hernia repair they insisted on removing that final bit. I have been sorry ever since. I have always had some skin problems but now that my stump part is gone things have exploded. Constant yeast infections that jump to dif parts of my body as I fight them. And about three months ago I developed psoriasis on my face. Nowhere else. I thought it was solely a result of my body no longer having a spot to work it’s UC out on lol. But after reading your story maybe it would have progressed anyway?..... I’m in my 60’s, the disease that keeps on giving 🙁

I don't know of any 'cure' for psoriasis, natural or otherwise, but there is something that might help a little bit. A recent clinical study found that pycnogenol, an extract from the bark of French maritime pine trees, can significantly and safely improve the symptoms of psoriasis:

Yup!! I have had crohns 30 years and now I’m 42 with horrible scalp psoriasis!! I tried everything- my diet is ridiculous- dairy free gluten free, soy free, alcohol and caffeine free- and still it persists... it’s all gut health and stress that brings it on. There’s a great book called healing psoriasis. But I’ve recently resorted to steroid creams and solutions trying to get it under control!

I got it after about 8 months on Humira. When I stopped Humira a few moths later, it went away and never returned.

I know the two conditions tend to occur together. I developed psoriasis a few years after Crohn's. It was triggered by a skin infection. It ended up becoming psoriatic arthritis about two years later.

I had psoriasis show up about 8 years after I was first diagnosed with Crohn’s. When I’m having a flare it tends to try and erupt thru my skin in general but for a while I had huge blotches of red psoriasis on both legs and less raw but more flaky in my scalp and the nape of my neck. Possibly from the Humira rather than the Crohn’s but no dr could figure it out either way. It comes and goes (mostly goes) but it’s usually an early indicator of a flare for me.

I've literally just been diagnosed with psoriasis after being diagnosed with CD 14 years ago. I get it on my feet though which they said is quite rare. They kept misdiagnosing for eczema. I'm currently not on medication for CD though so perhaps that's why it's started happening now.
