I have experiencing chronic telogen effluvium for over 7 months. I started humira in July 2020 and I stopped taking it about 5 weeks ago. I’ve always suspected that the humira could be the cause of my hair loss even though my doctor doesn’t think so. The hair loss hasn’t stopped yet so I’m really concerned. Has anyone had any hair loss issues on humira? If so, how long did it stop after ending the medication? Thank you!

HC, I searched back through the archives & found posts about Humira & hair loss. Some people experience it & some don't. I did not have any hair loss while on Humira. Are you on any other medications? How is your disease activity, is it under control? If you are only on Humira will your dr be willing to switch you to a different medication?

I know this is a big no-no, but I stopped the medication without consulting with my doctor. I see him this week and I know he will not be too happy but desperation was taking over. The disease is under control but I do worry that the hair loss is directly related to the disease itself and not the medication. It just seemed that the time of hair loss started when I began the humira. The timeline matches up. But it’s just so hard to know for sure. Thanks for your response.

Hi- I was on Humira for about 5 years when I noticed a small bald spot on my head which was getting larger over time. For unrelated reasons, I stopped the Humira, and within a few weeks the hair began to grow back. Although I wasn’t having any gut issues, I was having a great deal of arthritic pain, and after one year I went back on Humira. It’s been more than 5 years, and a small bald spot has developed. The benefits from Humira are much more important than having to style my hair differently.

I'm a UC patient about to switch from Humira to Xeljanz, just posting here to say that when I started Humira I noticed that more hair was falling out, and I was really worried about baldness or hair thinning, but this didn't happen (I was on Humira for 6 years).

I actually think that rather than losing more hair my hair was just regenerating faster, as I've had a lot of fuzzy short 'baby' hairs at the front (ie regrowth) while on Humira.
