For those who have experienced a stricture with their IBD what were the symptom of the stricture? Did you ever have a period where the stricture was present despite having no blood or mucus in your BMs?
Thanks

You should get several replies here to your question, as strictures among Crohn's sufferers are very common. Strictures often are a result of the repeated inflammation healing cycle, that leaves fibrous scarring, that can thicken resulting in the narrowing of the area of the small intestine that it's formed.
Many are able to live with stricturing, but when it becomes a problem, symptoms present themselves as pain revolving around the slowing of digestion, as you start having a difficult time getting anything through. You might start having a full/bloated feeling, but when it gets really bad, you can experience a blockage. This is where nothing will pass through. You won't even be able to pass gas. At this point, a trip to the emergence room is necessary.
If you have mild discomfort, as most have, you can manage your symptoms with dietary changes, and something to get things moving again like Restorolax or Senekot.
Hope this helps, but others here will be able to give more info. as well.

Stricture symptoms typically cause abdominal cramping, bloating & loss of appetite. In severe cases, severe the pain is severe, nausea, vomiting, constipation. Depending on the
location & severity there are several ways to treat. If you suspect you have one, get in to see your dr.
The above member gave you some good tips, not much more to add.

Cheers for the help from a newbie.
Can a stricture be present with normal enough looking BMs? i.e. no blood or mucus?

Do you have any of the symptoms we have listed? Normal BM's, no blood or mucus is always a great sign with crohns.

Yes, that is possible. You can have strictures that developed from old Crohn's flares with your Crohn's being in remission.

You have to keep in mind that a stricture isn't necessarily a sign of active disease, but more of a by-product of having this disease. Active inflammation can certainly cause motility issues, and the discussed symptoms, but it's more likely the healing process and resulting permanent scarring that will be the issue. Therefore, a stricture can be present without any blood or mucous.

At this point, why don't you tell us what symptoms you are experiencing & have you discussed this with your dr.

Yes, it is possible. I have multiple strictures in my small intestines for many years, but I have normal enough looking BM, i.e. no blood or mucus.

Absolutely. You can have structures while in remission from your disease. As said before... Structures can be from scar tissue caused by previous flares.
What are your symptoms?
