Bucko,
For those of you that are easily shocked or grossed out--you might want to skip reading this response.
I have a rectovagina fistula. It is a low RVF meaning the fistula opening is right around the vagina opening.
It started with a severe flare, then a red bump on my bottom, (which was there less than 24 hours) and my vagina felt.... Like there was something wrong, something uncomfortable in there somewhere. My panties started having mucus/brown spots on the side where the vagina fistula was located. Doctors could not find anything wrong. CT, MRI, Sonograms, Bloodwork...all came back normal. (But I had been going to the bathroom 27 times a day for almost 2 years after getting what I thought was sudden food poisoning.) Once it broke completely thru and "stuff" started pouring out...suddenly then..they thought there was a RVF, my labs came back showing something was wrong and finally a scope showed very slight red irritation...but they could not see the RVF during the scope. MRI, CT, Sonogram still did not show the fistula. We still can't see it via MRI or CT.
Now... One of the ladies in my support group had a different experience. They could see her vagina wall bulging during one of he CT Scans. They can see her RVF in all her scans. She too went to her GI, OBGYN and a Colorectal surgeon. It was the CRS that noticed the bulge and called her OB. She was put on Flagyl. Remicade, Methotrexate and her fistula closed.
Any questions let me know. I will help if I know the answer.
