You're always good at posting about new therapies and such. I've only followed the MAP vaccine development loosely over the last few years. Had sort of forgotten about it. Are they contending that this will be a Crohn's "cure"? Or, another treatment option to keep symptoms under control? Will be interesting to follow either way.

It’s good to have studies like this that challenge the mainstream paradigm fundamentally, not only theoretically but also on experimental grounds, and aim for “curing”; instead of “managing” and making money off the disease.

If it doesn’t work at all, it will still be helpful for enhancing our understanding of the disease.

I tried to, but there was an issue with getting the required blood samples. My GP surgery wouldn't do it, my hospital wouldn't do it, and in the end I just stopped pursuing it. It's a shame, but the blood would have had to have been sent to Canada and I think that's part of what made it so difficult. Do you remember Canada Mark? He was the one who offered me a chance to get tested for MAP. Speaking of which, I wonder how he is doing.

I am interested in the Crohn's MAP vaccine and would probably have it if it was offered. But I read somewhere it may take 5-10 years to become available and I can't wait that long. Besides, I have a sneaking suspicion my bowels are just buggered regardless now and that nothing is going to change that very much.

Yeah, Canada Mark seems to have dropped off the radar. His last post on HW was in 2019, so hopefully that means he's doing well and is too busy to post rather than too ill. Sorta off topic, but I'd also like to hear from Somedude again - he made me laugh >_>.

I don't blame you in the slightest for not wanting to stop a successful treatment. I wouldn't do it either. But like you, I'll be following the vaccine's progress with interest.

I'm honestly quite shocked by the level of animosity there has been towards anti-MAP therapy in the GI field. The fact that some people have gone into permanent remission after treatment is proof that, in at least some cases, MAP or a related bacteria is involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. Studies like the widely cited Selby study are so poorly designed, yet they are frequently cited by GIs as "proof" that anti-MAP doesn't work. The facts are, we still do not have antibiotics that can cure Johne's disease in cattle, so why would we expect them to cure 100% of humans? What the industry SHOULD be doing is working on stronger and more targeted antibiotics, as well as removing this pathogen from our food supply. If it is pathogenic to apes and there is strong evidence that it is pathogenic in humans, it shouldn't be allowed in our food and water. Even if this MAP vaccine doesn't work, that doesn't mean anything. First they would need to prove that the individual has a MAP infection (which is currently extremely difficult, without an effective way to test and a high level of false negatives), then they would have to treat the infection, prove that it was eradicated and that symptoms remained despite eradication. If this could be shown, then they can show that MAP is not involved. Otherwise, all they are proving is that the current antibiotics are not fully effective. Not that MAP isn't involved. Anyway, rant done. I've just been reading so many peer-reviewed papers about this lately and its fairly infuriating. I trust scientists who study this stuff frequently more than these doctors who are still treating Crohn's patients the same ways they did 20-30 years ago (inadequately).

So sad that we have lost a pioneer in possible treatment and cure for this disease. Hopefully, his legacy will be the continued research and development based in his beliefs and findings. RIP Professor Taylor.

Thanks once again for the continued updates on this. I'm wondering about the criteria for the trial, as you need to be off of all therapies for 3 months. MIght be only milder patients would be participating, as most need biologics to control symptoms. Although, I suppose there will be some that don't have an effective treatment plan right now. We'll have to see. Thanks for staying on top of the progress though.
