blood platelets low

My Daughter has been on Stelara for a few months now. Everything seems to going fine, but her most recent blood work came back showing borderline low blood platelets. I believe anything under 150,000 may or may not be an issue. Hers was around 146,000.

I have absolutely no experience with this issue. Anyone ever have to deal with this at all? Is this possibly related to Stelara? Right now her GI nurse just wants to monitor it, as from blood work to blood work, lab to lab things can change.

Can you look at her past results for blood tests and see what her platelets count has been before?

It's not low enough to be very worrisome. I agree with the suggestion to monitor it, ie, get it re-tested in a few months.

They have monitored me several times when anything is borderline. Usually it resolves itself unless I am having other symptoms... And then we've had to go in and fix things.... With blood infusions, antibiotics... It's just important that you stay on top of it and make sure she is messaging her doctor's so they don't forget. (I have one doctor that is knowledgeable but forgetful on the monitoring unless I send him messages.) I've had tests that indicated I was in the trouble zone, packed my bags and went to the hospital per the doctor, where they then ran another blood test and everything was normal. They monitored me for 24 hours and then sent me home. So things change frequently. Try not to worry too much. (I know that's hard to do with your child!)

Did they indicate how often they would be checking her?

Not sure if they've looked at previous bloods for camparitives, and also they didn't say anything about how often they want to do repeat blood work. When on Remicade, blood work was done at every infusion, now with Stelara being self administered, I'm now sure how often blood work will be required.

I have LabCorp and all my results are there. They are also on my doctor's portal under tests.

Hopefully her doctor will give her a time frame.

That's not super low for platelets. Platelets are a bit like WBC in that technically the range is up to 11, but if they see 12, they don't worry tons.

I'd just keep an eye and ask for regular labwork, like run a CBC once a month or quarter.
