Stelara side effects?

As some may remember, my Daughter has transitioned from about 10+ years of Remicade to Stelara. It's been a few months now I would say, and she doesn't appear to be having any digestive issues.

She has been complaining about some pretty severe body aches, back pain, upper and lower, forearm pain etc. Some of her own research has found that some have experienced this type of body pain during the first several months of Stelara, and found that it passed.

Anyone have any input on this? Could it be a Stelara side effect, and could it be temporary?

Statistically speaking, Stelara has a really good side effect profile, ie, most people have few if any side effects.

But for any individual, it's possible to have some unusual or rare side effects.

Are her issues a side effect of Stelara? It's hard to say. Will they go away? Impossible to know.

Best thing to do is work with her docs, maybe her GI and rheumatologist or GI and primary care.

I had significant side effects the first 2 years which varied. First year was horrible yeast infections that had me on daily oral anti fungals. Then came on the burning knee pain. I mean I literally was rolling on the floor the pain was excruciating. I couldn't sit, could barely walk and was in tears. Saw a rhumy....she suggested taking benadryl on the day of my injection but also for 3-4 days post. Haven't had a problem since. In fact I only take benadryl the day of my injection. I can't tolerate an ounce of pred - but she could take that as a pre med too. It's been 5 years now and I'm in "r" and may just feel weak or have some nausea after. I also just lay low for a few days post injection to avoid colds/covid etc.

I was use the "r" word gingerly. I suppose she's doing quite well, and would only like to know if her physical issues are med related. She's seeing a rhum. now, and also an Osteopath. She's also trying massage therapy, which she seems to be benefitting from.

Glad to hear that gut wise you daughter is doing well. Sorry to hear about your daughters struggles in the side effects area.

Sometimes my rhuemy will prescribe physical therapy. They've used heat and massage therapy several times. It really does help me. Remicade infusions increase my joint pains for a few weeks after my infusion.

I can't address the stelera side effects as I haven't been on it. I did ask one of the ladies in one of my support groups.... She said she has pretty bad pain with her knees, back, thumbs and hips. They are trying physical therapy and she thinks it helps. She attributes it to the stelera and is considering going off if it. The issue is her "gut health" is really good but she has all these new pains.

I know that doesn't help alot... I just wanted you to know that your daughter and your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
