Can You Eat Olives Without Any Issues?

Do you ever experience gut problems of any kind with olives, do you consider olives safe to eat?

What kind of olives do you eat? How much and how often do you eat them?

I have read about baked/roasted olives, I may try them to see if they are more tolerable with Crohn’s.

Black, all the time. My Dr and I actually use them for go transit time test. Eat olives after not having any for a couple weeks. See how long it takes to pass some!😋

That’s an interesting test, but how do you recognize them when they pass? Don’t you chew them well before swallowing? I’m assuming you don’t swallow the seed?

I don't eat anything else that's black. I don't have any teeth, and only about 3+ ft of intestine. So pretty much anything looks the same in and out😋 I can eat and get rid of some in 2-3 hours so no time to digest even when I still had my teeth.

I understand, I too had some of my bowel resected in the past, but not like yours. You have my full sympathies. Off topic, but have you tried implants or other things for your teeth? It must be very hard to get nourished by food without teeth and that much resection; though I suppose EN products like Modulen would be of use.

I've got dentures but I can't wear them without puking. They've been adjusted etc... And as for implants, my bone loss from many years of steroids and the TPN has leached the calcium from my jaw leading to the removal of my teeth. So not enough bone left. Spent like 40k trying to keep them but nothing worked. But I eat anything, steak,chicken ,ham, some veggies( don't like em anyway)😋 pizza, sandwiches. Its all good.

Actually I think there good for me. The oil in them gets me some good fats. It counteracts the ding dongs and Twinkie cream😁😂

Do you not have ding dongs ( round chocolate covered chocolate cakes filled with injected "cream") or Twinkies ( golden yellow " cake" filled with "cream"). ? The use of " " indicates the veracity of these ingredients being real is suspect!!😁😁🤔😋

Okay I get it now lol. I haven’t eaten those for such a long time, I couldn’t event think of them. I don’t know if you have ever considered being on EN, like using Modulen, but it seems to decrease Crohn’s inflammation and it’s so readily absorbable that you don’t need teeth or much of your bowels, as long as you have your upper small intestines you will absorb it. I thought something like that would be very good for your situation, very nourishing, nutrient-dense, and energizing. Doesn’t taste bad either.

Xy123, that's a problem for me. First I don't "do" liquid meds,foods or supplements. Its a mental thing. Goes down come right back up. I had some very bad experiences 30-40 years ago. I have had a G tube, but with so little intestine, the so called food was not in for very long, just increased the diarrhea. That's why I've been on the TPN all these years🤗

The TPN makes the most sense. I just saw your thread. 24 years, that’s definitely something. Your perseverance is encouraging and your positivity is contagious to me. May I ask how old you are?

Turned 60 end of november. Diagnosed in 1984 so coming up on 40yrs. I honestly do not remember what it was like to not have crohns! 2/3rds of my life sick it became my normal decades ago. Btw bought a can of olives last night😂

Well, I thought there was a chance you were a little over 100 years old. In your TPN thread, you wrote: “Joined here in 2002 and was one of the first 80 or so after the site relaunch in Jan 2003.”

Now I see you meant you were one of the first 80 people. I misunderstood, I thought you were the first 80 years old guy of the early days of this forum.

Anyways, when you turn 100, let us know about it.

I got a can of smalls. Seem easier to eat. The jumbos are too thick walled, but they fit on my finger tips like when I was a kid!😋

I've never eaten an olive in my life. I ate a piece of one when I was 3 or 4 years old and that was the last time.

Nicky, I had the same experience with beets. Very traumatic. I wouldn't eat a beet if they said it would cure me!
