Have been lately haveing neuro problems. Neuropathy and muscle twitching, it comes and goes. My doctor feels it may be related to autoimmune problems and Crohns. Anyone else have these type of issues?

I did when I was on Flagyl. Are you on Flagyl?

No, I am not on any meds. Funny thing is all started when I started a candida/fungal cleanse. Very odd.

Neuropathy can be a sign of B12 deficiency, which is often related to long term malabsorption in Crohn's patients. A simple blood test will give you your B12 levels.

Hi Hy I used to have them but not for awhile not sure what caused them I did have a B12 shortage at one time though. lol gail

I have problems from a low B12. Do you know your numbers? Because even if it is below 400 you can have neuro sx, and that is in the supposed normal range. Have you had any resections?

Crohn's disease unfortunately can have an extraintestinal manifestation involving the peripheral nerves. I have small fiber nerve damage determined to be the result of long term undiagnosed Crohn's. You need to see a neurologist and get the proper testing to determine if you have nerve involvemet and if so, what type.

I have had crohn's disease for 30 some years now. 4 years ago started having major neuro problems....am suspected of having MS. I posted a similar question a while back regarding people having more than one autoimmune disease. The response was quite interesting.

Resection in 2000 at ileum, lost 8" small, 8" large. I don't know my B12 numbers but doctor didn't mention low B12.

Hi!  Are you taking Remicade or Humira?  Both are associated with MS like changes to the brain.  Although this is a "rare" side effect I experienced both inflammation to the optic nerve and demyelinated lesions in my brain while doing combo treatment of Imuran and Remicade.  Symptoms were kind of mild and vague, eye pain, blurriness of vision and tingling in the legs.  After stopping medication, repeat brain MRIs showed less intensity of lesions with no additional lesions or change in size of existing lesions.  Also recovered my vision except for in dim light due to a little atrophy of optic nerve.  None of this was reported to drug company as a side effect post market, which is frustrating.  Wonder how "rare" these side effects are?  Anyway, if you are having symptoms it would bear checking out.  Good luck.

hi all, tinglebell, do you have any websites or somewhere i could look for the B12 stuff?  Something maybe I can show a doctor?  My B12 has been below 400 for some time but it's in "normal" range.  The list of stuff that could be causing neuro symptoms but have been eliminated is huge, but the actual cause has not yet been identified.  I am supposed to have more tests soon.  Speaking of, has anyone had "evoked potential" tests?  Maybe Ides?
