I am in a bad jam!!! I just found out that my insurance under my dad ends on my birthday. Well my birthday is in two weeks so Im in a scramble to find a provider. I spoke with an agent and once she found out I had Crohn's, she told me they would all deny me because of this. What am I supposed to do. Im on so many perscriptions and Im scared that Im going to have to go off of the steroids cold turkey and get really sick because I have no insurance to go to the doctor!!! Any help would be appreciated.

Find out how much it would cost to keep your dad's insurance as your coverage under Cobra.

How old are you? Are you going to be a full time student? Can you go on COBRA until you can get your own insurance? COBRA is expensive but if you are losing your insurance, your dad can call his carrier and request a COBRA contract. It's usually very expensive-maybe $400-$600 per month but it would help you avoid the pre exisitng condition problem when you do get insurance.
I work for a union and we administer insurance for NYS employees and we give insurance to children under 25 who cannot go to school because of medical problems if the parent has supporting documentation from a Dr. Your dad can also check on this with his carrier.

I though President Clinton ridded all US healthcare insurance companies of the pre existing clause making it illegal. I amy be wrong though.

I am about to turn 23 and am a full time student. But my father is military and they told me that they dont care what the insurance companies say they remove me on my birthday. I cant believe that insurance companies can do this to people.

Oh, I don't know about the military.......They just cut people off at 23? Even if you are a student or his dependent? Are you a dependent on his taxes? How are you supposed to get insurance if you are in school? That is harsh. I'm sorry. [img]/community/emoticons/sad.gif[/img]
Can you call them to see how much COBRA would be? Do you have low income plans in your state? NY has some plan for people who have a low income. The coverage is horrendous but it is something and cheaper than COBRA usually. Maybe check on your state's website?

ok...my suggestion...go to www.mib.com and order your report...see if anything shows up...it comes relatively fast in the mail

ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES use the mib. Its like the credit bureau for insur companies. (Im an insur agent so I know) anyways...Iwas diagnosed in 05 and checked my mib this year and NOTHING WAS onit!!

So I got medical insur and didnt disclose the crohns..guess what I GOT A POLICY ISSUED IN LESS than 3 days! trust me this works

Have you considered medicaid? You could use it temporarily to get you through until you graduate and get a job with benefits. That's what I did when I was in college. I was 23 and on my own and medicaid was a life saver. I didn't feel bad either because that's what it's there for. I had worked plenty before hand and paid into the "system" and I worked plenty afterwards too. I don't know what the requirements are and I don't know if you need to be independent, but I think the rules say that you can't have your dad claim you as a dependent on his taxes because then they will take his income into consideration. Check it out. It might be a viable option for you.
