I've had thrush off and on since my hospital stay in May/June.  I've had multiple courses of Nystatin and Diflucan.  They help a little, but it comes right back.  At the moment I'm on Pred, Imuran, Flagyl, and Cipro.  I started taking Primadolphilus Reuteri on Friday.  I've bought a half dozen new toothbrushes and a tongue scraper.  I found an alcohol-free, probiotic mouth wash.  I've got no sugar added, live culture yogurt and cottage cheese.  Is there anything else I could be doing?  Anything else that has helped you?  My GP is threatening to send me to either an ENT or Infectious Diseases specialist.  I really don't want to see any more specialists.

Yikes. I am by no means any expert on thrush but are you also doing a diet that keeps you from feeding the demon? Online you will find lots of resources along these lines and I'm sure someone here (Kim?) can help you, too. I know that nasty cases have to be attacked from all angles. Good luck to you!

My mom has the same situation as you do. She has MS. Her doctor believes it is one of the manifestations of an autoimmune disease in her system. She has some kind of prescription mouth wash that she uses daily to keep it at bay. All I know is that it is a really milky consistency. Have you tried this?

I've had the same problem for the last few months. I feel like I've gargled with gasoline and lit my mouth on fire.

Yesterday, I got myself some Culturelle and added that to the 2 daily yogurts. It seems that the 20mgs of pred and weekly Humira injections have turned off my immune system to the point of yeast overgrowth. For now, I'm just happy that the yeast has contained itself to my mouth. Afterall, it could be all the way down my throat and esophagusup into my sinuses and/or I could also have a vaginal yeast infection. Can you tell I'm trying to find the bright side?

I'll be seeing my Primary Doc on Friday, who is also an Infectious Disease Doc. I suspect he;ll put me on Diflucan yet again, but I intend to find a better way to mange this going foward. I've gotten too much relief from my meds to allow thrush to get me off them.

I think tomorrow I'll be having a long talk with my pharmacist to find out what options there are in terms of a lidocaine mouthwash or gel to numb the burning and what is available to add to my "magic mouthwash" to deal with the yeast.

If I come up with anything usefull, I'll add it to this thread. Good luck to you.

Anyone ever tried baking soda for rinseing the mouth or swishing it with a vinegar rinse? lol gail

I get recurrent vaginal yeast infections. I tried the Diflucan, and monistat, but it always came back with a vengence. Now I take Nizoral. I take 100mg 1X day, if it flares up I increase to 200mg for a week. I've been doing this for about 2 years and so far so good. I'm not sure if it would work for Thrush, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
