I'm recently diagnosed with Moderate Crohn's on Pentasa and Entocort.  I'm looking for the best specialist in the NY area, and would appreciate it if you could assist me.  I live on LI, but would travel to the city if need be.

If you are in LI I would recommend the practice of Drs. Katz, Tepper, Bonnapace and Fung Liu located in Great Neck. I was personally referred to them by one of the co-founders of CCFA. They also have a research facility as part of the practice.

My doctor is quite good, but the practice is very busy.  All doctors are good --  mine is Dr Present, 212-861-2000, but very busy.  Dr Steinloff, also in the practice has much more time to give and I have seen him numerous times because Dr Present is away and he is wonderful.

Nikki, I was searching for Docs out at LIJ or North Shore and just didn't have much luck. The GI I saw out there referred me to Dr Legnani at Mt Sinai. He was very good, but my Rheumy has asked me to see Dr maria Abreu, also at Mt Sinai for a second opinion. She's one of the top GIs up there and I've met her at a lecture. I don't see her until the 13th, but I'm sure I'll do well with her based on the discussion we had at the lecture I attended.

Dr Present, who Laurie mentioned, is also one of the top GIs at Mt Sinai. He has a very good reputation.

I tried to email Dr. Mayer and ask him if he could move up my appt. He is the chief at Mt. Sinai. Does anyone know him. I did see Dr. Abreau's name there as well so maybe I will call to see if she has an earlier appt. Do you all live in NYcity??? Do you think it is important to have a local GI as well? I also called Cornell to try and see Dr. Ellen Scherl but they do not take any insurance and are booked for a full month. She is one of the moderators at the Corhn's Foundation program I noticed on line. Does anyone see her?

I live in Queens and it is a lot easier for me to get to LI if I need a hospital than to go into the city. Drs. Katz, Tepper, Bonnapace and Fung Liu are all affiliated with North Shore LIJ. I work in the city and have been thinking about taking Dr. Abreau as my secondary GI for the times I have problems when I'm at work.
