Hello everyone,

I was wondering, since having to fill out unemployment papers due to geting laid off once my old job heard of my restrictions that would be until the 20th.  One question they ask is if you are disabled.  How would you answer that question?

Answer yes. If yes, does it require you to explaln?

I would say no. You were working and were not defined as disabled by your insurer, doctor, or SSI. Even if it is a yes or no question write in the margins or attach a paper that says you have a disability but were not considered disabled. I believe that disabled is a term that has to be assigned to you but Im not sure exactly how.

I don't think you can say yes because you are not on disability. I think if you were you could. Did you get laid off for health reasons????

That question is really up to you and your doctors. Mine said yes I was and helped me with all the crap I had to do to be declared disable. It also depends on your age, and what type of work you do. I could not return to what I was doing before and was by SSDI standards untrainable for a new job at my age....Talk with your doctors..

I git laid off since I had mediacl restrictions post op just lasting until 9/20 however I still have 3-8 runs to the bathroom since my surgery, my stomach is never calm, I have trouble sleeping due to pain and D. I am definitly not how I was before I feel more confined to my home now more than ever, I cant go out to a movie, out to dinner is a gamble etc

Dragon, I'm faced with somewhat of the same situation. I have a great job where I was promoted 6 months ago. I had scheduled surgery for a take down of my ostomy in June. On May 21 the company announced lay offs for my whole operation. I was told that they intended to keep me with the company. They where ok with the surgery and looking forward to having me in a new position. After the take down the doctors found colitis in my rectum. Needless to say I have been out of work since June. I get Short term disability , that will run out next week. I'm taking all the old drugs i took before the ostomy. Basically I have colitis again. My choices are to either take the rectum and have a j-pouch , ostomy or combat the colitis with drugs and hope for remission. I have applied for long term and should get it. Buttttt, I'm afraid that if i stay out to long , my company will not wan't to retain me. If I go back to work for the last couple of weeks and get laid off i may lose my disability. I do not want to have to get surgery again and have no unemployment or disability. I feel ok , but still have urgency and cramps on a regular basis. I take pred , 6mp and pentasa. I feel your pain man. You don't know who to talk to or who you can trust. Good luck, Westy

I was put on medical disability back in the 80's because my crohn's was so bad. After much paperwork and interference by my surgeon, I did qualify to receive my disability benefits. My gripe is that after I was declared unfit/too ill to work and collect a paycheck, family members decided I was to be the full-time babysitter for their infants/toddlers,so they could go back to work and earn their paychecks. Mind you, I did not receive a pay check, nor was I allowed sick days. Even tho, they were aware of my condition and that there might be those bad days, they actually got upset with me if I was unable to go to their homes to sit for their kids. It then became my responsibility to find a replacement. I was never even asked if I wanted to take on this responsibility, they decided for me and then informed me of this decision. I was still trying to please everyone at this time, so I went along, hoping I would be accepted by these people. The first time, that I really was unable to satisfy their demands, they dropped me as their sitter, declaring me unresponsible and this is still one of the many things they hold against me to this day.

I am not looking to collent disability at this time just wonder how to answer questions like that on forms. I hope my GI will put me on questran tomorrow and I will see a difference. I tend to have more issues earlier in the day rather than at night
