SSI or disability

I have never tried, but I have heard that almost everyone gets denied the first time and sometimes even a second time. I have also heard that you really should always have a lawyer, it really helps to get thru the system quicker. Good luck to you.

Our Dr. said it should be very easy, one of the few disease that they don't hesitate to disable you, have you talked to your Dr. about this assistance?

I am on disability and it took me two years to get mine.I would like to point out something so you don't get a shock.When you apply for your disability and you get denied and if you don't appeal with in 60 days grace peroid goes by and then you apply again.you will loose that portion of your back pay.I know it happen to me.When you file by all means please do ask the case worker that will be over your case.

I lost about about seven months back pay because I was told that when when you let the grace peroid exspire (sp)you will loose that portion of the back money.So when you file and you get turned down don't wast any time replying again and that way you will not have to worry about it.

When I applyed for my disability I did it over the phone.I called SS and told them what I needed and I was giving a case worker and she took all of my info,she also sent me alot of paper work as well.

The number one that I will tell any one when filing for disability is that when you get your paper work and fill it out make copy's of every thing.The reason you will be asked the same questions again at some point.When you fill all of this paper work it's hard to remember.

Like the others have said you need to talk to your Doctors and have a talk with them and see if they will back you up.all of your Doctors have to be on the same page.

I am going to set an example and pointers.....I do know some that have crohns and got there diasability the first time around,so I no what I am fix to say is easier said than done but try not to get frustrated (sp).

When I was turned down I felt like alot of other's so I appealed turned down again and that is when I called Sentor Trent Lott and they took my name phone and said the he would have him call and two hours latter Sentor LOtt called me back.I explained my situastion and I was told that he would be glade to help and he did.

Sentor Lott asked me to send him the name of all Docotrs and since I was at the time in a wheelchair and I had severe Edema(fluid) there for I could not work.So the third time I was awarded my disability.I had hired a Lawyer but about the time he started to work on my case I got my letter that I was appoved.

Oh I all most for got to tell you this.I would keep a jurnal and every time I eat and it botherd me then I would the name off the food down and then deatail I would put what side effects that I was having.I also did this with my meds and this will show SS that you are sick.

They want to know how offten do you go to the bathroom and if you throw up how many times in a day as well.They will want to hear from you on how this disease effect's you.They will ask questions what limitaions you have since being sick.They will want to know how this disease is effects you daily.They will want in detail on what you were able to do before you got sick and they will want to know how it has changed.

They will ask if you have to have help with getting dressed and so on.This has gotten long so I will close for now.

i was approved pretty easily too...

for me, i think it was the fistulas that i had/have. The state/fed doctor looked at my rear once and said, "Wow, there is a lot going on down there"

therefore, it was not hard for him to believe my application, wherein i stated that "sitting and/or standing for any length of time caused extreme discomfort.

good luck, and make sure you do not understate your symptoms!

On another note, one thing interesting about my time on SSD was that when I went back to work, they kept paying me.

I am not talking about the usual "return to work" period. I started back to work in April one year. The nine months went by and they kept paying me, so i called and reminded them I was back at work, the person at SSD said they knew and were "reviewing my file"

the review process took quite a while. One person at SSD said I should save the checks (they were being directly deposited, so imagine how hard that would be) another person said, as long as i had informed them I was working, the checks were mine as long as they kept coming.

i wasn't able to save much of them....finally about a year after the "9 month return to work period" was over, the checks stopped, because I had called again and said, "Please stop sending me these checks, i don't think I am entitled to them"

i later received a letter from SSD stating I owed them approx $9500 in overpayments. I was freaked out....i applied for a "reconsideration" since from my end, I had informed them as required that I was working and that I was getting the payments when I thought I should not be.

Imagine the joy I experienced when, a few weeks later, i received a letter stating:

"We wrote to you earlier to tell you about a $9,275 overpayment. Since we were able to stop your January 2006 payment of $1122, you no longer owe us any money."

Period. That's it. I have the letter saved in a fireproof box in case they ever come back to me.

i guess it was my turn to get lucky!
