Does anyone know how long it takes to get results back from this test?

From what I've read online...this test is not all that it is cracked up to be.

However, there are new studies on more promising tests coming down the road.

Hi Broomhilda

My mom is fighting ovarian cancer and her doctor does a CA-125 on her every month to see how well the chemo is working.  For her the test has been very beneifical an dshe usually has the tests results back in just a couple of days.  The doctor also does an MRI and CT scan to determine if the cancer is growing or spreading. 

We have been dealing with this for about 1.5 years now and when they found mom's cancer they diagnosed her in Stage III level III which is pretty bad.  Right now we are just dealing with it a month at a time which is how often she does chemo treatments.

Thanks for your input.  I got my results yesterday and they were negative.  It's a good thing your mom's Dr. does the MRI & CT scans on a regular basis.  The CA125 from what I've read does not have a good success rate in diagnosing ovarian cancer in it's "early" stages.  However, it seems the doctor is using it as another tool in your mom's case to re-evaluate her from month to month.  You might want to consider asking him to do an occasional dopler image as well or better yet, have him/her explain why they have not used this as well.  Some forms of pelvic imaging have proven to be more effective than others and yet some insurance companies hinder the doctors from using them as often as they should be.  Just a suggestion in your arsenal against the cancer.  I don't claim to be all that knowledgeable in this area, just ran across some credible information I thought I'd pass along.  Best of luck and prayers with you both as you approach every day!
