Does anyone know where she is going?

Mt. Sinai called and told me she is leaving the practice but would not tell me anything else. I have been waiting for the appt. since July (it's Nov. 1st) but they said she won't be able to follow up with me. They were going to make me wait another 3 months to get in with someone else so I kept it.

Stuck btwn. a rock and a hard place.....Ahhh.

I got the same call. Now what? They said she was moving to Florida

Oh great. I am keeping the appt. They did not even tell me she was moving.....so I kept it. Maybe she will be able to get us in with another Dr. sooner.

she must move around..i am pretty sure she used to work out of Cedars in LA too....

I got the scoop last week as I wanted to get an appointment with her as a new patient and the scheduler said no. They think she and her husband are moving over seas. They suggested Dr. Mayer there, does anyone know anything about him?

Hey Gladbag, I was wondering where you went to. I hadn't seen you around for over a week. Were you on vacation or something?

We know Mayer and he's delightful, but chose not to continue with him. If you want details, I can send you an email, but I don't think this public forum is the place to say anything negative about a specific doc.

Drs David Sachar and Daniel Present are both good at Mt. Sinai. 

My daughter is pretty miffed that Abreu is leaving, because she just met her two weeks ago, and now must find another GI.

njmom,would you mind sending me the info. as well? My email is in my profile. I have a 3 hr. ride to the city and don't want to be wasting my time with a bunch of different Drs. so I am looking for some good recs. I chose Dr. Abreu because I heard she specialized in CD and women's issues.....Oh,well.

Thanks for the reply & email. Unfortunately it is too late as I already saw him today. In my opnion....well to be honest....probably the most attentative doctor I have seen so far....well worth the three hour drive and the cost of the consult (no insurance mind you). He spent well over an hour with me looking at every blood test, xray, and what have you. He requested that I have all my studies sent to him so that he & others could take a look at them. I have seen a few "specialist" who supposedly deal with IBD and none of them could even come close to the level he is on...he is an IBD specialist, not to mention that he is also an immunologist which should be taken into account. Look at all the theroies out there on what causes IBD and the drugs that are used to treat them (ie. immunosuppressants???). This doctor is on to something and I consider him a leader in the IBD community. Furthermore take a look at the drug Myconda that just got approved by the FDA...a combination drug of a tripple antibiotic cocktail.

PaulieV and everyone else,

Is anyone at Mt. Sinai actually impressed or excited about Myoconda? It shows some promise and will likely pass its phase 3, but I highly doubt that any well respected US hospital IBD clinic (UCSF, Mt. Siani, Cedars Sinai, Mayo Clinic, UCLA, etc) is talking much about it. Some of them may do the phase 3 next year, but I mean that none of them are willing to prescribe it off label. and until very recently, nearly all of them (as I have heard through others) were quite anti-MAP theory and are still skeptical about Myoconda.

My doctor said nothing about myconda during the consult. But what I gathered from what he said and what research is going on and some of the questions he asked it seemed that bacterial is what might be causing IBD. Think about it.

Oh, for the record, I think the MAP theory has much more evidence for it than against it. Mt Sinai is doing a study with Berkeley on Crohn's patients intestinal flora, and Mt Sinai are probably interested in the defective innate immunity theory (immune response against something other than MAP, or against everything) over the MAP theory.

Yes, I know he is an immunologist...in fact, he heads up that dept. I liked that he was able to throw X rays right up on the wall, too.

If you trust him, and believe in him that's great. No doc can be all things to all patients, so what matters is what you get out of it.

Btw, when we first met him in April 2006, Mayer wasn't very impressed with MAP trials done to date. Of course, he might have changed his mind and/or encountered new info by now.
