Officially diagnosed: Pain in the buttock

A while back I wrote about my hamstring tendon problem from Levaquin. Well, PT treatments weren't all that successful and I continued to have pain in the lower right cheek.

Then the pain started up in the left cheek where that hamstring tendon insets. Pain crept up into the butt on both sides and wrapped around to the hips. The pain continued to get worse to where I was waking up at night from the butt pain. My rheumy sent me for a MRI of the pelvis.

Among other things the MRI showed that I have fluid between the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius muscle consistent with subgluteus bursitis. Wow! Great! Butt bursitis! LOL

The MRI also showed trochanteric bursitis on both sides; tendinopathy/tendinosis of semimembranosus tendons; and that my femoral head avascular necrosis is stable.

Waiting for my rheumy to call and tell me how he is going to treat this pain in the butt....... cool

Geeez Ides, did not know that was possible. I thought for a minute it could be sciatica, but, nope, you pulled a new one on me. Hope doc has a quick fix for it though...

Yeah Ides thats a new one for me too. Don't you just love being the first on the block to get bursitis in your butt. I just got a lovely steroid shot in my left knee because of bursitis in my knee. That was REAL fun. (not)

I had trochanteric bursitis once. It was not fun. I got a steroid injection which was not painful (I have had them elsewhere with different degrees of pain) and never had a problem since then with that joint. Having it on both sides must be really awful.

Hi Ides sorry to hear about your butt pain. I guess you are litteraly a pain in the butt. Not intended to be offensive . Hope they can help that and gee there sure is a lot of things to contend with at times. Hope you get some sleep.I think I got myself convinced this is not my belly anymore .lol gail

How do you get someone to diagnose this horrible pain in the butt and hips? What kind of doctor did you see? I have seen everyone and been told many things and tried Ph Th and it just gets worse and worse since the Chrones is getting worse and not being diagnosed correctly. It is like someone is prodding me with a spear in in my rectal area. Throbbing like inflamation in my buttock and lower back. It is hell and pain medication now hurts my stomach!

I had the most wonderful rheumatologist! He was one of only three at the time in the US using ultrasound to look at tendons, specifically the insertion points. He found severe enthesitis and then sent me for a MRI.

You pain sounds consistent with spondyloarthropathy. SpA has several forms. Enteric arthropathy and ankylosing spondylitis [AS] are both associated with Crohn's. The hallmark sign of AS is inflammation in the SI joints. They are closely aligned with the dimples above the butt cheeks.

You need you doctor to order a MRI. If you don't have a rheumy, get one! If you have one and he won't order the MRI, then get a new rheumy! Good luck!

hey Ides!!!! your topic line alone made me laugh!!! thank you for that. i really needed it. I am sorry for all the issues, but sometimes a good laugh helps.

After I had spent the whole night on the toilet, not sleeping, cleaning up accidents in the bed, taking several showers to clean myself up, I opened the forum for some support and saw your topic.
that topic line "Officially diagnosed: Pain in the buttock" was all i needed to make me smile.

Again, not trying to lessen the issues you are having, but wanted you to know you helped me!!!! I do hope you get some relief soon.
