frustrated & heartbroken

sometimes this is the only place i can go for support. here i am up again after sleeping 4 hours. my pcp had me switch from trazodone to restoril for sleep. i was really hopeful this stuff would work. maybe i just have to give it time as i switch meds. anyone ever try this? the generic is called temazepam. it could also be because my boyfriend and i broke up. too much stress from my sickness. i know it must be frustrating for him, before i got sick we had so much fun together and well, since i deteriorated, so has our relationship. i commend anyone who is able to stick by their significant others with this illness. i know i haven't been the girlfriend i could be. what can you do? i woke up in pain today, already feel nauseous and don't feel like taking vicodin cause that is going to make me feel more nauseous on an empty stomach.

I recently went through a stretch like you are experiencing now. I was having an unusual amount of stress at the time. I tried Rozerem which actually made the problem worse. Even ambien only gave me 5 hours of coma like sleep. All of these sleep meds say that if the problem doesn't resolve in a certain amount of time (I took ambien for 17 days straight) other issues need to be addressed. I am assuming they mean stress/anxiety etc (or another medical condition) I am now on 12.5 mg zoloft and it seems to be helping a little. I fall asleep a little faster and am able to fall back asleep when I wake up numerous times in the night. I also don't wake up at 4 am anymore unable to go back to sleep. So it is helping. I have to take the small dose because I don't tolerate drugs that raise serotonin levels well.

You have to be careful with the benzodiazipines (which tamazepam is) They are intended for short term use only. They will cause what is known as rebound insomnia when discontinued. They also change the sleep cycles you go through.

Hi Steph hope the Dr. can help by talking to you about things but you are right you can manage by yourself. Have you family support or friend support that you can talk too. I was upset last week about meds and stuff but I feel much better about things now. You need to take care of yourself now and get feeling better. We are here for you any time you need to talk. Your not alone .The pred. makes it a little hard on the mind anyway. Did you have sleeping problems before the pred.? lol gail

hi gail - thank you for the kinds words. yes, i have had sleep problems for about 3 or 4 years now. i am starting to think the pred is making me very up and down. one moment i feel like, ok, things will get better then swhooop, right back down to feeling very sad. too much going on but thank goodness for you guys!

hi kay - thanks for the support. i am going to try and re-focus on getting better and try and to shut off the pity. i can't help but feel abandoned. i will just keep telling myself it will get better. it has to! thanks you again.

No, I haven't noticed any side effects from zoloft at all. 12.5mg is a small dose. Other than the slight improvement in sleep I also don't see it doing much either but it may be too soon. I have to admit my feet feel better- I have some kind of tendonitis/inflammation in my feet that is causing a lot of leg pain. I think its because these drugs like zoloft affect the way you think about things- stopping obsessive thoughts etc- so perhaps it is forcing me to think less about my feet and so I don't notice the discomfort as much. I do tend to obsess about things. I have read that in many cases "depression" presents as anxiety

The reason I am taking the small dose is because in the past I found this drug revved me up. Not manic, but very energized. It was kind of scary. I don't seem to be getting that now. (I took 12.5mg in the past as well)

I've been given restoril (generic is called temazepam, thats what it says on bottle for me) 30mg at bedtime.
It does help, but I try not to take it more than 3 days in a row or I'll get hooked.

Sorry to hear your bf couldn't handle seeing you not well, and I know how you feel.
I'm concerned about my relationship all the time, and we use to have fun too and then recently it's been sliding cos of this IBD.
I hope he comes around and understands it's NOT your fault for having this and your trying your best to feel better, it all takes time.

I don't know how long you've been together but if its not too long to hell with him! If he truly loves you, he would be there for you regardless.

So sorry Stephanie, it's so hard to cope with this dd, but to nurse a broken heart as well is tough. Time, they say, is a great healer.

the nay - i am on 15mg right now. last night i slept a whopping 3 hours :/ we have been together for about a year and half. i guess its better to know now then find out down the road he can't handle my disease. thanks for the encouraging words!

kandice - i feel my bf just got so sick of hearing about it. i tried not to complain too much around him. sometimes when you are in so much pain though it's really hard not to! thanks for the inspiration and you take care yourself
