I HATE it when the GI adds "IBS" to the mix!!!

I was just reading a post of the board and it seems that many GI's have told us that our "bad" days with D etc are not Cd or IBS!!!!!  What makes it so different!  I know for me, my GI said that to me once years ago  and I didn;t call the next time when I was sick!    i think that if we have CD then our guts are bad.. how are we suppose to know when to call.... Will someone explain it to me.  i for one don't want to bother my dcotor for IBS...It makes me sooo mad!  Prof

That's me. I've been trying to figure it all out for the last year. I even started a new diabetic medicine, which caused me "d" up to 10 times a day. It took almost 2 months for all of us to figure out what was causing the problem. Since so much of my colon was removed, my GI thinks it is highly unlikely that my Crohn's has come back so fast. He says it will probably be years. The only problems is I don't have any other signs of CD like weight loss or bleeding. Mine has always been just "D", fatigue and fistulas. I just went through an episode of terrible tail bone pain. I thought it might be fistulas or abcesses. After running numerous tests (ct scans, mri) it turns out I dislocated my tailbone. I guess it will be trial and error.

Justt D, and fistulas? at seems like a pretty big burden to me. i think that they say IBS because they don't know what else to call it. My pain isn't spasm- it is a burning searing pain, and responds to heating pads and not eating. i don't think that IBS is a strong enough term for what we go through!

My doctor told me last time I was there that I had IBS...but I thought IBD is just a worse form of IBS, I don't know it makes no sense to me. I call whenever I feel like I'm bad enough, I don't care if I aggravate the poop out of them. They are there for a reason and it's to serve us, if they can't do their jobs then they need to find a different one.

I went through the whole IBS diagnosis twice in the past two years. I'm in pain on/off again. I don't think it's IBS because the medicines that the doc prescribes for IBS don't help worth a darn, and I hurt on days when I haven't been able to eat a thing. I'm not letting it be just IBS this time.

If we get an IBD dx and at some time we get a "mini" flare does that mean that the short periods of D etc are IBS and not the CD??? I beleive that even if the tests are ok.. once you have the dx. of CD.. you have it and it is always luming somewhere in your gut. I have to say my GI says I have "smoldering" CD when this happens at times. I think that is the way to look at it so we don't get ourselves worried that now we have IBS.

Prof, I won't call my doctor unless I get "d" more than 5 times a day and more than 2-3 days in a row. I seem to change every day so I don't usually worry unless it's getting progressively worse.

i've had the same problem...had a colonscopy with terrible pain and diaherra and it showed up fine so he said i must have ibs on top of crohn's.  I know the scope can only go up so far, so i was thinking maybe it was active higher up but who knows. He didn't seem to want to go the extra mile to find out if it was higher up.  Frustrated cuz now i never know when it's suppositly ibs or if it's the crohn's, and he seems to not want to treat me based solely on symptoms.  I told him, trust me, if it wasn't bad i wouldn't be wasting my time with these procedures and appointments.
