Girl Talk

Okay.....I don't mean to be gross or anything but when you get your period, does it seem like your CD gets worse? I honestly think it does but I've never had the chance to ask anyone else about this before. I asked my doctor and she says that it has nothing to do with it. Let me know what you think!!

My last period was neglible, which is remarkable for me. I read that some of the side effects of the drugs I'm on can cause missed or lighter flows. I noticed I still got bad cramps and back pain. I'm on the pill so my period is lighter than it would be otherwise, but since i started all these Crohn's drugs it's been really light.

Hormones play their roll with exacerbating CD symptoms, this happens with IBS as well, it's not uncommon for this to happen.

I totally know what you mean. My CD and diarrhea in general are Always bad during my period. When I asked my GI about this, she said it is normal, and that for some women, she prescribed very small doses of predinsone (like a week's worth) to be taken during that week to alleviate these symptoms.

When I asked her why this happens during my period, she explained that the hormone that signals the uterus to "evacuate contents" can also find its way into your colon (hormone secretion is not a pin-point exact process in your body) since these organs are so close together, and that signals the colon to also "evacuate contents," i.e. you get diarrhea and cramping.
