Oh randy I sure wish I could fix you,man as long as you have been dealing with this fever you would think that someone would have fiquerd (sp)what is causing this.hand tight and know we arew for you day or night.

I'm so sorry to hear about this vicious fever, Randy.  104 is awfully high and must be absolutely miserable.  Did they help you at the ER or give some explanation?  Does Tylenol bring it down whatsoever?  Please hang in there and feel free to vent away...but we definitely need updates.

Just when I started feeling sorry for myself, I read this. You have been thru the mill and just can't understand why they can't find the source of your fevers. I think last time they just stopped on their own? Could you have serum sickness? Are you having any pain? Hope you get well for the holidays.

i know you've been dealing with this for a long time. it's just unbelievable that your docs can't at least come up with an explanation, if they can't stop it. i know this is gonna sound stupid, and i'm sorry if you've already covered it in the last year, but, ya know when a kid has a dangerous fever and the doc instructs the mother to fill the tub with cold water and immerse him/her? do they do that you you in the hospital? or pack you up like fresh tuna with ice packs in your bed? i know it would be a bummer to keep taking cold showers, but can't a fever kind of feed on itself? if you keep taking it down, maybe you could get on top of it. again, i feel kinda dumb suggesting this stuff, cuz you've prolly already done this a million times. maybe a little freon down the ol tube..........i dunno, man, i just hate seein' ya hurtin'

Just ditto'ng all the well wishers. I hope they get on that fever for you. VietVet has a pretty good idea there. When I was 4 I had pnemonia and chicken pox and my fever was in the 105's. They put me in a chilled oxygen tent. I was miserable but it brought my fever down quickly. I had to stay in the tent for a few days but that was probably more due to breathing problems than the fever. Maybe you can go to a resturant and ask to hang out in the walk in freezer for awhile. It would be cheaper than a hospital stay!! Hope you get to feeling better soon!

  thanks everyone for the pep talk.. to answer some of the questions posed,

  yes i have a central line almost 5 years never had an infection.

  no tylenol does not help me

  yes i use a big fan alternating with BIG blankets when the chills hit

  i was told by a nurse after the first few to use ice packs in the arm pits, helps a bit

  i sleep on towels and toss em on the floor and change em when they get soaked

  yes i have CT scans about every 2-3 months

  no one thinks its CD related

  my white count never spikes (well it was 15k on sat) but thats not real high(mostly 8-10)

  they used to come about every 6-8 weeks. 4 since beggining of sept

  all tests for auto immune things, lupus,RA,etc... neg. all for infections neg. allergies neg.

  i have had tests for everything in the drs playbook.

    blood cultures done saturday show no sign as of tuesday. my favorite nurse is working thanksgiving and is gonna call me with the results.

 saw pulmonologist tuesday. still thinks lung nodules are tiiiny liiittle clots that come and go.no way to be certain unless they take out a piceof my lung WHILE im having a fever. yeah good luck with that one! im keeping whats left of me thank you very much.

 also saw my IV guy and we decided to go ahead and change my central line. maybe in a couple of weeks. CANT have a fever for that one. geesh, there getting picky. 

 so the plan is to wait a couple weeks, get everything set, go up to seattle take a shower with what is basically bleach, have a new rubber tube shoved under my skin puncturing my jugular and shoved down to my heart, while almost at the same time the old one is and i qoute " cut from the skin and ripped out like a NG tube" . sounds like fun!

  oh yeah forgot to mention i will have to shave my manly chest hair from neck to belly button. (oops! forgot i dont have one!)

  anyway if i still have fevers after that , we did it for nothing. yeah!

  oh and the great news is next time i have a fever, i get to take 5 days of prednisone. just to see if it helps if its an inflamation thing. that should improve my mood tremendously.

 ok , its long, its a rant, but if ya read this far ,  "you like me! you really like me!"
