I started getting D right away last night with my first dose but the antibiotics are necessary since I have an bacterial infection. I have been sick since last Wednesday. Any tips? I had yogurt for breakfast this morning but I am having D that is yellow bile... Plus I am at work and miserable! sorry to be so gross but I knew I could ask all of you.... thanks! Karen

PROBIOTICS...and even when you're not taking antibiotics you should add probiotics daily to help with CD symptoms...when taking antibiotics, always take probiotics at least 2 hours after you're done taking antis for the day so the antis don't destroy the good bacteria from the probiotics. Even if you're in remission it's wise to continue taking probiotics daily.

Karen get the Probiotics now, especially since your on the antibiotics. I am telling you they really stopped my D in its tracks. It will also help you to avoid getting a C-Diff infection and getting D you can't get rid of.

if you are not too far along in the course of treatment- try asking for a different antibiotic. Some are much worse than others for the D. My GI always prescribes Levaquin because it is supposedly least likely to cause D- I am just finishing a round for a sinus infection and was fine. I know there have been threads here about
other side effects with Levaquin that are not GI related- everyone's body reacts differently to each drug. Hope you get some relief soon.

To rest the bowel try: soft soluble fiber supplements as Metamucil help stop the Diarrhea and bind the stools. Six servings as described as a standard daily supplement. I read here in my most helpful book more: Creamy Outmeal made by slow cooking and Cream of Wheat seems to help most people with IBD. Some eats ripe bananas, mashed potatoes, well-cooked rice. An old folk remedy: eat a peeled apple, a banana and cottage cheese. The apple and banana supply soluble fiber and cottage cheese makes more binding capacity. Also helps restore the electrolyte balance.
Good luck, from Ingrid
