NSAID evil.Is it link to Chron's?

If someone get IBS from NSAID,should i suspect Chron's?

10 years has past already.Doctors says IBS. confused

If you have IBD (crohns or UC) then it's imparative that you avoid NSAIDs because they can promote bleeding in the bowels.

I wonder if that helped to contribute to my introduction to this wonderful disease. 2 Years or so ago I hurt my rotator cuff, and the first thing my primary care doctor told me to do( along with an x-ray) was to take 4 grams/day ibuprofen for pain control. Seems to be quite a high dose, and it didn't even work to dull the pain. Now of course, my GI says to avoid all NSAID's.
Does anyone know of any link between IBD and NSAID's?

pb4,the doctors think it is IBS BUT i forgot to tell them that i took NSAIDs in the past.

The thing i wonder if i could have Chron's because i'm highly sensitive to NSAIDs.

AS SOON AS I TAKE THEM,MY STOMACK AND BOWEL BECOME IRRITATED!!!

don't quote me but i think that anyone can have problems taking those, especially people with stomach problems of any kind, crohn's, ibs, stomach ulcers etc.  i don't think that would be a defining factor in determining if you have crohn's or not.  Have you had a colonscopy yet to rule it out?

Colonoscopy painful and couldn't reach the cecum.It was many years ago.

All the triggers for crohns or UC are not yet known, so I cannot tell you if taking NSAIDs in the past could have brought on CD for you, all I can tell you is that for those with IBD (CD or UC) NSAIDs should be avoided because it can bring on bleeding in the bowels.

I've never heard of NSAIDS being the CAUSE of IBD. I don't think they know what causes it really. As others said, NSAIDS can cause problems in people with IBD. I also know people that do not have Crohn's who don't tolerate NSAIDS as well.

Sounds like you need to speak to your doctor about having more tests to get a better diagnosis since you are concerned. Having everything ruled out with testing is the only way to know.

Not "cause", trigger, two different things...genetics cause the disease but it has to be triggered....smoking IS one KNOWN trigger for crohns specifically, including second-hand smoke.

This is an interesting thought because in 1998 and 1999 I was put on heavy NSAIDs because of a knee and neck injury Motrin 1000mg 6 times a day. After a week of being on this for a week I broke out in hives all over my body and discontinued. I was then put on Naproxin and had the same results. Could this have been the start of what I am going through. I am a smoker but I am trying to quit once I am able to be approved for Chantix.

It's so hard to say really, it's not yet known if NSAIDs are an actual trigger for IBD but the reason to avoid it if you have IBD is because it promotes intestinal bleeding.

I have talk to A LOT of people who got IBS from NSAID.


Also,there seem to be a problem with the "search" on the website.Couldn't find my other NSAID post.

taking NSAID may irritate inside the stomach. If you have too much acids you may get severe pain. I had too much acids, had that medicine and got stomach ulcers. NSAID is not good to eat if you have IBD, inflammated bowel disease, such as Crohns or colitis ulcerosa. To protect yourself from getting trouble with NSAID, you can take acid blockers.
