my hair!

My hair has been a real disaster lately.  Either from all the meds or just being sick, a lot of it fell out.  And what didn't fall out was weird and frizzy and dry.  What fell out has started to grow back, so I have lots of strange, wirey hair about and inch and a half long sprouting out among the "normal" stuff.  And I've started to go gray, too.  So basically, my head's been a mess.  Last night I just couldn't take it any more, so I went for a hair cut.  She chopped off the worst of the mess and added layers to make it look more full.  Problem is, my hair had a lot of natural wave before that was controlled by the over all weight of the hair.  With the layers it's no longer weighed down.  So now my hair is wavy, wirey, all different lengths, and sticking out in all directions.  I look like my head exploded.

Anybody have an extra hat?

Bed head manipulator has saved my hair. Just a dab gives shine and removes the frizz. I had lots of hair loss when first on Imuran, it settled down after about 6 months or so. Good luck!

My hair has gotten really thin and breaking a lot. I typically get my hair cut 2 times a year and at the same time I get red lights in it and dyed red befre the red lights. I went over the weekend to get the works done and my hairstylist was actually Dx with UC when he was 17. He had an emergency perm. ostomy. The disease was moving so fast that they actually thought he had colon cancer. He is almost 40 now he and his wife chose not to have children he is as skinny as anything but you would never guess he had an ostomy bag but he knows the meds and what they can do to hair.

He chose not to do the red lights since like highlights it uses bleach which would make more of the hair damaged. The dye he uses for just your basic dying does not have peroxide in it therefore it doesnt damage the hair. He said a lot of mine not only was from the meds needed for my flares but also the general anesthesia. I informed him I would be having general again this week for my scope and he had heard from my mom that I will be having a 4th Sx come january. I use to have really really thick hair when I was Dx in 87 I was on such high IV doses then oral doses of pred it majorly thinned outmy hair but it was still very thick. My hair is kind of frizzy but it is half its thickness now and lots of breakage a few inches from the roots. At least my stylist was able to make it a bit more healthy than it was....and those blasted greys are covered up with "paint" as my husband calls it

bektold.....sorry to hear about your hair.... I definately agree with those that suggested frizz reducing shampoo and bed head or some kind of pomade if you have shorter hair so you can spike it. Did you hair stylist suggest any products to make it behave?

I started imuran on oct 3rd and I am so thankful that I started with a thick head of hair because it's been falling out. It stopped for about 6 weeks and now it's started back up. I can see scalp now. I'm brunette so now I'm seeing my white scalp and it looks uglee. and I've had 3 haircuts since then to try to make it less noticeable--last week my hairdresser was quiet because she thought she had texturized my hair too much. I laughed and said, no it's just started falling out again. Mines not falling out in clumps but thinning throughout my whole head. In a sick and twisted way, I'm glad that you guys are going through the same thing. Sometimes I cry cause I don't see those little wiry new baby hairs and wonder how my hair is going to replenish itself. I'm almost tempted to try nioxin but they say that if your hair is ready to fall out, it's going to fall out regardless.
