Just found out I'm pregnant!!!

I just found out today that I am pregnant for the first time. It is very early. I am super excited but also hesitant to get to excited because of this disease. I usually take Remicade and was due to get one yesterday but I got a positive home pregnancy test. In Canada you are unable to get Remicade if you are pregnant. So now I am due for my drug and can't get it. I am having trouble getting through to my specialist and my family doctor is on Mat leave (go figure). I was just wondering if anybody had any advice or experiences they could share with me. Anything is appreciated.

Remicade is considered a category B medication during pregnancy and from the research thus far is considered perfectly safe. There are a lot of girls that have had Remicaid babies here-Stef comes to mind for sure. Crohns does not have any impact on miscarriage unless your Crohns is active when you become pregnant-it is a little higher rate then-but not a given. I just received a bunch of information on pregnancy/remicaid, etc.... from my doctor if you are interested. I don't really know how to e-mail to you without you posting your address though. WOW! Congrats on your pregnancy!!!! So, in Canada can you absolutely NOT get it at all??? Or can the doctor do a medical over-ride? It's very important for you to not have a flare and the beginning part of pregnancy can feel like a mini-flare because of all of the hormonal shifts. Get a hold of your GI ASAP and insist that you stay on your meds. Can you come to the U.S.??? :) I know that's crazy, but if you can't get REmicade in Canada while you're pregnant, at least you could come and get it here.

Thank you all for your best wishes advice. Still working through my options. I would prefer to get thru it without medication if possible. I guess my concern is miscarrying because of a flare up but I am trying not to get a head of myself. One day at a time for now. I will keep posting.

hi congrats on your prgnancy.i was dgnsed with crohns with my first pregnacy.no meds.struggled for 5 years to get it on track.got pregnant 2 years ago and i was really sick and on pred.i stayed on a low does of pred for the whole pregnanc

Congrats! I was diagnosed after my 2 babies were born, but I can tell you that in some respects I was healthier while pregnant that not. I was surprised that my "messed up" body could do what it did! I am constantly amazed at my 2 healthy kids.

I am jsut now being diagnosed but suspect I have had this for several years now that I look back. If I am correct on when this started (going by symptoms only) then I had one of my pregnancies with CD. Obviously I was not medicated and it was a rough pregnancy. The 3rd trimester was the hardest and I spent several evenings going to the hospital to get rehydrated (vomiting and the big D non stop). But my baby ended up being full term and very healthy, most importantly, I would do it all over again!

Try to keep all of your Drs in the loop about what is going on and I am sure you and the baby will be fine!
