I recently joined the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation and the chapter sent me a card to keep in my wallet to use to move to the head of the line at bathrooms it reads:

I Can't Wait

The bearer of this card has a medical condition that requires him/her to use hte bathroom facilities urently.  Thanks for your understanding!!

The thought of having to show this card here in NY or when I go to the city makes me laugh.  I think the people here would say, "so what" get back in line!!

Funny! I got the same card years ago and only use it at home when my husband is hogging the bathroom! I say "do you need me to show my card?" :)

i got one of those cards and i have had to use mine on numerous occasions. It comes in handy in my case i have really hard time with my bowels and you know how the womens restroom line always looks.

Hi I also have the same card I have not had to use it yet. In Illinois there is a law that they can't refuse me to use the bathroom.

As I remember it, that card came about as the result of an Old Navy store (I think in Illinois) refusing bathroom privileges to a young teen age Crohn's patient resulting in her soiling herself in a large mall in public. Her experience drew nationwide media attention and coverage. She had a very angry and persistent mother to advocate for her and for all intestinal sufferers.

Like others said, I think you would use it in states where public places have to allow people with medical conditions to use their facilities. The card would be proof that you aren't just some person off the street but someone that fits within the intent of the law. (A law that shouldn't be necessary in the first place, just let people use your john... geesh... whats the big deal!)

I hadn't heard of that lawsuit that CrohnieToo mentions above, how interesting though. The card sounds kinda kooky to me but I can see the merit in it, especially in locations where they refuse to allow patrons to use their facilities. Can't tell you how many times I have had to locate a public restroom because the place I was at didn't have public restrooms and I "had to go" now...haha. It's always a huge inconvenience. I say kudos to the young women's mother for advocating so strongly for her daughter's rights-CD is a disability, however misunderstood by the public-and it sure is!!

I have never used the card, but keep it just in case. I don't need it most places because I tend to only shop at places that have public restrooms. I think that has become an unconscious choice :-)
