update on my 79 year old Mom

I posted last week about my mother who is having a flare of her Crohns disease. I wanted to give you an update. She started her Endocort on Jan 12. She seems to be feeling some better. Her diarrhea is under control. She still struggles with her appetite but is eating more. She occasionally suffers from nausea, which could be a side effect of the Pentasa or other meds. Her BP is better, it was 90/50, now it is 106/65. She in not taking her BP meds. I wish it were a little higher though. Her biggest complaint is the pain, mostly in the back, abdomen, shoulders, and ribs. She does not have any pain meds, except Tylenol. She does take a Xanax at bedtime to help her sleep. Also she easily fatigues. Just going to the bathroom can wear her out. She notices shortness of air, which could be from the fatigue, weakness, and de-conditioning. She also is 79 and has been getting a little short of air over the past 3 years, but not as much as now. We see the GI doc in 5 days, and I have a big list of questions. I'm sure she needs her iron levels checked and other lab. Has anyone been short of air? Any advice or suggestions are welcomed. Your answers on the last post were very helpful and I often read the posts to help gain insight for my Mom. Thanks

I'm glad your mom's symptoms have improved a bit. I know when I'm having a flare, I'm so worn out I can't do anything. I'm only 43, so I can't imagine the same effects when I'm 79.

Tell your Mom we are all pulling for her! I am glad she is feeling a little better. Just the stress of having this flare can be a problem -- on both of you. Don't neglect your own health while you care for her. Bless you both!
