(not) Ileum pain?

Hi all,

For all the issues I've had with Crohn's, it's been mostly rectal involvement.  The past couple of days I've been having a pain in what I am pretty sure is the ileal (sp?) area -- on the right side, below my ribcage.  BMs have been alright, but more bleeding that I've had recently.  Just wondering if any of you, who have this more commonly, know if there is anything in particular to be concerned about, above and beyond the typical nonsense of Crohn's?  Is it worse when the ileum is inflamed?

In my experience with a narrowing ileum, now removed, the pain has always been on the right side, but nowhere near my ribs. It's much lower down, about halfway between my hip bone and my ribs. The pain I had just under my ribs was an enlarged liver, but that went away. Just my two cents, hoping for the best for you!

I have stricture in my ileum, and it hurts just like ovary pain if you have ever had that when ovulating. Right side and low down in my pelvis. Hope this helps

My hubby has narrowing of the  ileum and his pain is always on the right side but lower then rib cage.  You could have referred pain that you feeling up higher. Take care.

So I guess it's not the ileum.  I just don't understand this new feeling. My belly feels bloated like and kind of hard.  things are still "moving along" alright though...

What meds are you on? Do you have any nausea?

no meds. none work for me. I am still enrolled in the prochymal trial, so technically I can't add any meds.

The location you describe can also point to gall bladder inflammation, which is more common in Crohns patients than in the general population.

Good point, that is where you would expect to have Gallbladder pain. The gall bladder, which sits just below the rib cage to the right of the stomach, is very tender to touch with an attack.  It can be so painful that it takes your breath away. Take care and keep us posted.

Thank you... I will ask my doctor. Fortunately I already had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow. Oh, I forgot (oops) that I am on Cipro for a UTI. But, I don't think that would cause this symptom. Maybe if it were gallbladder related it would help it in some way? Thanks again.

I had that same pain when I was first diagnosed.  It was directly under my right sided rib cage.  They did a full work up for gallbladder, ultrasounds, etc...It ended up being crohns disease in the TI as seen from the colonoscopy.  I was diagnosed in August and am still working on getting in remission.  The sharp pain on the right side has gone away but now it is just the diarrhea, mucus and gas issues that need addressing.  I hope you get rid of your pain soon.  Feel better.
