stricture dilation UPDATE

my daughter is on very short notice having a colonoscopy to dilate a stricture tomorrow morning.  I only found out today.  She hasn't been able to eat anything solid in over 2wks, and before that no fibre or things hard to digest since before christmas.

Has anyone else had this procedure done?  She has to start prep in a couple of hrs.

did you find it very painful after? How long did it take for you to recouperate? My daughter has to work the next day!

I had this done several years ago and no, there was no pain after the procedure., although I always feel fragile for a day or two after a colonoscopy. My stricture had closed to less than 1/16 of an inch and they were able to dilate it enough that it bought me about two years before it closed completely and i needed surgery. It was a really painless process, and well worth the attempt as it lengthened the time between resections.

She is doing a prep called Pico Salax. We live in Canada and this is a very easy prep too do. I've had it myself. It is a powder you mix with 150 mls of water and it taste like orange. She took the first package at 6pm and the second at 9 pm. Shes been going and hasn't any problems. She also has been on a liquid diet for almost 2 wks so maybe there isn't as much there. This prep is more expensive, but really worth it. Very easy.

Thanks for the good news that those of you who have had this had no problems! That really eases my mind.

well, the day is done.  There was a windchill factor of -47C this morning when we started out, and school was canceled.  We got there fine, but had alot of trouble locating parking and I had to park a good distance away and walk. BRRRRR!  I had lots of headgear along so only my legs got cold.  I dropped Jerica off at the front door so she wouldn't have to walk.

The colonoscopy went well and quick.  The Dr did not find what we were expecting.  There was NO narrowing and everything looked fine!!??!!  So he as well as we are very perplexed at what is going on.  He wants her to stop the Remicade, put her back on the Imuran and increased her Amitryptaline in hopes that will help with her pain.  He mentioned IBS, but I don't see how it can be that.  I have that and it doesn't resemble her problems at all.  He isn't changing her diagnosis of Crohns though.

We will still go for the MRI on Feb 25/08 and have a follow up appointment in approx 6 wks from now.

Thank your for your prayers of protection.  Please continue prayer for clarity as to what is really going on and that they will pinpoint it so Jerica can be pain free.

I'm glad that they didn't find a stricture where they expected to, but I suspect it does little to ease your concerns. Something is causing her pain, isn't. Has her small bowel been thoroughly evaluated?
